"if my heart could speak you'd know
if my mind could speak you'd know"
I woke up at 6 to get ready for my interview, I shower did my hair, got dressed then did my make up.
I was really nervous I had never been an assistant and I had no idea if I was good at it.
I grabbed my purse and walked out into the kitchen to see a note on the counter with a set of keys, "use my car, I'm not going anywhere today." It read.
I smiled and grabbed them off the counter.
As I followed the directions Crystal had texted me I became more nervous, when I reached the big building labeled "NNTME MuCo",it was 8:30.
I got out of the car and tried to keep my expression neutral as I walked inside of the place, it was huge. There was a receptionist behind a black desk taking calls, I waited patiently for her to hang up the phone before telling her about my interview.
"Figures." She mumbled
I scrunches my eyebrows together in confusion, "Excuse me? What-"
She cut me off quickly "The office is on the second floor it's the first door to the left you see." She said with a fake smile.
I eyed her suspiciously before walking over to the elevator, as I stepped inside I wondered who exactly this interview was for Crystal never did tell me.
The elevator rung as I reached the second floor I looked around and noticed all of the posters of celebrity singers on the walls.
"First door on my left." I repeated the directions the weird receptionist gave me.
I knocked on the door and a couple seconds later I heard "Come in."
I opened the door and walked in the decent sized office.
"Ah you must be Ms.Sullivan, you do know you're five minutes early?" The bald man asked.
I nodded, "It's better to be early than late, is what I was taught." I said smiling.
"Good, have a seat." He said smiling a little and gesturing to the black chair across from him.
I sat down and quickly dug in my purse and handed him my resume.
He looked it over and made a little 'hmph' noise. "You have no experience in being an assistant, why should I hire you?" He asked setting my resume to the side.
"I'm always a few minutes early for starters, I'm organized, a quick learner, and I work well with others." I said confidently.
"Yes, but do you know anything about music? Being an artists assistant you've got to know something about music." He said matter-of-factly.
Considering I didn't know what I was really being interviewed for I was a little confused, but I didn't show it. My confident demeanor remained as I answered, "I know just everything there is to know about music, all the different genres, different techniques, skills, how what some artist can bring to the table and what others can't just by hearing them hit a couple notes."
He nodded looking obviously impressed, "one last question, what can you bring to the table that these other people I interviewed can't?"
"I can bring my work ethic, my determination to make said artist exceed in everything they do and make sure they're never misrepresented. Yeah I realize managers help with promotion and things like that, but I can do better." I said seriously.
He looked at me for a minute, my palms started feeling sweaty as we sat in silence until he smiled.
"You're hired, come on I'm sure you want to meet him. He's on the third floor in the studio." The name said standing up, "I'm John by the way."
"Nice to meet you and I'd love to meet him." I said smiling.
"Whoever 'he' is" I thought.
I followed the man out of the office and into the elevator once we reached the third floor I followed him through the hallway and into a room that was dimly lit.
"Hey August, meet your new assistant." He said.
As he moved out of the way, my eyes got wide.
There he was sitting in a chair a couple of other guys were in the room, producers I assumed, shades covered his eyes but I knew he was staring at me.
"Jazmine Sullivan meet August Alsina." John said smiling.
He had know idea I already knew August Alsina.
I took a step forward and extended my hand. "Hello it's nice to meet you." I said.
He tilted his head down at my hand but didn't shake it, instead he nodded and made a 'Mhm' sound before turning to one of the guys.
I put my hand back by my side and gritted my teeth.
"Have fun, you're his third assistant this month." John mumbled to me before exiting the room.
I stood awkwardly in the room just looking around before I cleared my throat, "Anything you need me to do Mr.Alsina?" I asked politely.
He didn't answer he just continued the conversation with the guy beside him.
I bit my lip to keep from saying something I knew I would regret, instead I walked out of the room to find John again.
"Hey John, can you email me all the events August is going to be at this week? Interviews included." I said as I walked into his office.
"He wouldn't talk to you huh? He's a little difficult to warm up to but he's a good guy." John said giving me an encouraging guy.
I nodded and smiled back at him. "Thanks." I said.
I walked out of his office and pulled my phone out, August had an interview at six tomorrow morning that meant I'd have to be up at three.
I huffed and pushed a hand through my hair.
It didn't look like he'd be needing me today since all he was doing was recording so I started making calls to all the places he'd be at. I started with the break club radio interview.
"Hello I'm August Alsina's assistant Jazmine. Tomorrow he has an interview with Charlamagne, Angela Yee and DJ Envy at six I would like for there to be heavy security. He's not a morning person and I want things to run smoothly." I stated.
The day went on like this until I headed back to Crystal's house, she definitely was going to get chewed out for setting me up with an interview to be August's assistant.
What do you guys think?
What do you think is wrong with August? Why is he ignoring Jazmine?
