Chapter Seven

NDABA

Amanda came in.
Amanda: You have a visitor.
Me: I am not seeing anyone today. I just came to fix a few things.
Amanda: Its Naomi.
Me: Send her in.

She walked out and Naomi came in after a while.
Me: Njabulo lets you leave the house?
Naomi: Mom must be turning in her grave.
Me: Don't start.
Naomi: She's perfect to you Ndabe! She dances to your tune. You are a fucking fake towards her. There's no truth she knows about you except that you're fucking thug!
Me: Sit down before your feet get swollen. I love Bianca, you know that.
Naomi: I thought you did, but this Lebo chick. On top of it all she's pregnant! Do you know the use of condoms?
Me: It was a mistake. I don't even love her.
Naomi: So why are you risking your marriage?
Me: She's pregnant. She needs me. How would you feel if someone knocked you up and left you? Bianca is the love of my life. Soon as Lebo gives birth I'll be there for her for 3 months and then back to my wife. Simple.
Naomi: Simple? For who? Are you the one that will sleeping alone for the next 4 months?
Me: It would've been simple if you kept your nose out of my business.
I will go home once or twice a week.
Noami: You will lose her and you'll spend the rest of your life searching for her in every woman you meet. No woman would ever love you and your rascals. End it.
Me: End what?
Naomi: Whatever the fuck you're doing with that woman. End it!
Me: You I won't do that.
Naomi: You did it to Palesa. Do it to her unless Ofcourse she's more important than Bianca is.
Me: She's not.
Naomi: Then do it. She will learn her lesson. She should've known that falling pregnant for a married man comes with being alone during your almost time to deliver.

She got up and left...

*2 months later*

I woke up first today for a change and went to make breakfast. This man has been sick constant. He came back 2 days after, saying somebody stood in for him at work. I was just happy he's back home. He has been the sweetest, supportive and loving husband that I have known him to be. I have been waking up to fresh toast, pan cakes, waffles, croissants every morning. He just erased all the suspicions I had. If he really was cheating he wouldn't spend 2 months without seeing that bitch.

I put the tray on his bedside cabinet and kissed his lips. He opened his eyes and smiled.
Me: I beat you to it.
Ndaba: Good morning.
Me: Morning. I made you bacon and eggs, just the way you like it and buttered bread. The toaster is broken. I am lazy to go get a new one on the basement.
Ndaba: Thank you.

He sat up right and took the tray into his lap. We started eating. The kids have visited once ever since that day. Those women got the message loud and clear.
Ndaba: Mango called last night. He has given me 14 days to pay his money.
Me: Why can't you take on our savings?
Ndaba: I can't. I owe 4 other people. I need about 16 million.
I choked.
Me: What? And you didn't tell me?
Ndaba: I didn't want this reaction.
Me: How did you end up using buyer's money before the packages were even delivered?
Ndaba: I gave the money to Njabulo, Sphiwe, Bonke and Kabelo.
Me: They have finished the money? Can't you find a way to ship these cars?
Ndaba: No. Tight security. We've been trying to get an inside man but there's no luck.
Me: Try harder. Where on earth are you gonna get 16 million?
Ndaba: I have 6. I just need this 10 and quit this shit.
Me: Take from our savings.
Ndaba: No. Let's eat and go to the mall.
Me: What do we need?
Ndaba: We'll see when we get there. Remember Zee's wedding is around the corner.

It was supposed to be last month but postponed due to the passing of her father inlaw.
Me: We will wear the clothes we bought last month.
Ndaba: Maybe we need accessories.
Me: Go to work.
Ndaba: I'm off today.
Me: No you aren't.
He laughed.
Ndaba: I wanna spend the day with you.
Me: Go make money babey! I will pay you a visit later.
Ndaba: Ok give me a kiss.

We kissed.
Me: I'll go fill up the tub for you.
Ndaba: Are you gonna bathe with me?
Me: Yes.
I bit my lower lip and escaped his grip laughing.

I put on all the necessities on the tub and turned on the taps. I went to get my phone and checked up on Naomi. I am so inlove with her baby girl, she's literally the cutest thing I've ever seen. She gave birth through c section so she's fragile but healing. She's just a cry baby so she's making it huge than it actually is. She's at her aunt's house and getting treated as an egg that she is...

I arrived at the office and made coffee. I woke up late today. Khulubuse convinced me to attend the Phuza Thursday event last night. It didn't end well, I woke up with a terrible headache and sick. I had to gag first before leaving for work. I took an uber. I couldn't drive feeling like this.

He walked in laughing.
Me: This is not funny. Is that hot black coffee?
Khulubuse: Ofcourse. Peace offering.
Me: You're a horrible friend.
Khulubuse: You needed to unwind. I know how stuck you get into these cases. You needed to down the information you read.
Me: I did. I couldn't even pretend, I slept in the guest room.
Khulubuse: Innocent until proven guilty.
Me: She is guilty. Why would he visit her place more than once? How did she even find her hotel room number?
Khulubuse: Let your team deal with that.
Me: I can't!

"Let me in I wanna talk to my husband!" That was her shouting from outside. We got up and headed for the door. Security was dragging her to the lift.
Khulubuse: Let go of her!
They did.
Kamila: I just need to talk to my husband please.
Khulubuse: I'll leave you two to talk.

I went back to my office with my hands stuck in my pockets. I prepared my ears for whatever bullshit was coming for them.

I sat at the edge of my desk and folded my arms. She fiddled with her fingers. Her left leg wasn't steady.
Kamila: Babe I didn't do it. You have to believe me Zwe...I...
Her voice was trembling. She started crying.
Kamila: I thought of hurting her but I wouldn't have killed her.
I just looked at her.
Kamila: Zwe please say something.
Me: Say what?
Kamila: That you believe me.
Me: While I saw the messages of her texting her boyfriend that her ex's wife is in her apartment with a gun? I woke up and you were not home that night. You lied and said you were at your friend's house. Now tell me would you believe yourself if you had this information!
Kamila: I didn't find her!
Me: What about the second time?
Kamila: I didn't find her that day either! I just wanted to scare her that's all. I am being honest Zwe. You know me.
Me: That's why I wouldn't put it past you. I will not save you from the law this time.

She bit her upper lip firmly and sobbed silently. I went to sit on my chair and checked the files of new cases hoping to find atleast 2 of following cheating husbands not this finding of killers.
Kamila: I saw who killed her.
I brought my eyes up.
Kamila: Her father. He paid me, the cleaning lady and a security.
Me: And you took the money?
Kamila: I didn't. Am I off the hook?
Me: Kamila.
Kamila: Dammit Zwe I just told you who killed her. I saw him walking in as I went there. I waited for him to leave, when I finally went in. She was dead! He stayed there for 2 hours straight. I am certain he killed her!
Me: He saw you?
Kamila: Yes! He found me a day later and tried to silence me. The police  came to question me.
Me: Go to the client's office.
Kamila: What?
Me: Go.

She walked out. Dammit!

I used this day to go see Lebo and Ibanathi. I haven't seen them in 2 weeks. She welcomed me with warm arms as always.

I cooked for her and we watched movies.

On my way back from buying takeaways. I passed by the liquor store to get myself a few cans of something. I also called Bianca and told her that I will be late.

I parked my car on my parking spot. This was unusual, her window reflected no light. She usually turns her light on at 6pm.

I took the things and headed in. I took the stairs. The door was unlocked.
Me: Lebo?
I turned on the lights and saw Bianca sitting on the rocky chair holding Ibanathi while Lebo was taped on top of the counter.
Bianca: Hi babe. He's cute, isn't he? I'd have loved to know we have an additional member to the family.
