Five hours passed and they had removed over 100 pounds of fat from Amada’s stomach and back. They stitched her together and moved her to one of the extended stay beds. She stayed asleep for almost another hour. When she woke up, her whole lower body was numb. She saw her sister sitting on the chair beside her bed. “Bella?” Bella flinched when she heard her name. She had been lost in thought before Amada snapped her back to reality. “Hey, Amada. How do you feel?” Amada laughed. “Like I just had my fat rolls cut off of my body.” Bella chuckled. “How long do I have to stay here?” Bella sighed. “About six weeks. Your cuts need to heal completely before you can go home and resume regular activities.” Amada’s eyes widened. “Seriously? Am I going to have to wait that long for all of them?” Amada asked, louder than intended. Bella shook her head. “This was the biggest procedure, so it’s going to take longer for it to heal, of course. They also want to make sure you don’t get an infection.” Amada nodded. “Okay. Yeah, I get it.”
Bryce and Amada didn’t really end Sophomore year on a high note. They would still smile at each other in the hall, but they didn’t talk or hang out anymore. They didn’t exactly know what to say to each other. So, Amada didn’t tell him about this huge decision. She didn’t want him to try to talk her out of it. But, more than ever, she definitely needed Bryce’s company at the moment.
Amada was freaking out. There are only three months of summer vacation, so if she has to heal completely after every procedure in order for them to start the next one, she wouldn’t be finished by the first week of school. She didn’t want to have to miss school. She wanted everyone to see how much she’s changed as soon as possible. Also, she didn’t want to have to make up tons of schoolwork.
Right then, it was a tiny eureka moment. “Hey Bella, could you go get Dr. Montgomery for me, please?” “Why what’s wrong?” Bella asked, concerned. “Nothing’s wrong, I’m okay. I just want to ask him a question,” Amada said calmly. Bella nodded and walked out of the room. A minute later, Bella walked in with the surgeon by her side. “You rang?” Dr. Montgomery joked. “Yes, sir, I did,” Amada joked back. “I have a question,” she said, the corners of her lips slightly dropping. Dr. Montgomery nodded and walked closer to the bed. “So, instead of waiting until I am completely healed from the previous procedure, can we start the next as soon as it’s safe to?” The surgeon smiled. “Well… yes, that’s what we planned to do.” Amada laughed. “Oh, okay then.” It had been a much better day than usual. Amada was happier than she had been in a long time.
