The first day of Amada’s senior year was coming up soon. Thankfully, she was healing from the necrosis, and it has been six weeks since her checkup. Dr. Montgomery said she would have to wait around four months for it to completely heal. Luckily for her, she was healing quickly and nicely.
Amada was so excited to go back to school. She looks and feels like a completely different person. She is in way better shape and that makes her more confident and less self-aware. She feels stronger. Like she can take on anything.
The rest of the summer just went by. She bought new swimsuits and she would go swimming every Friday at the local swimming pool with Bella. The other days, she would be practicing doing hair and makeup so she can actually be presentable this year. Usually, she would just wear a hoodie and tie her long, stringy brown hair into a messy bun.
Before anyone knew it, it was the week before senior year. Her last ‘first day of school’ until college. She turned 17 in three weeks as well. She was growing up. She needed to load up on school supplies, so she asked Bella to take her car for the first time. Amada had her license, but she’s always been scared to drive. Now she’s a new person and she’s turning over a new leaf.
She still hasn’t talked to Bryce or Gillian since the last school year. Bryce has wanted to text her, but he doesn’t know what to say without sounding stupid and desperate. So, he just thought it’d be best to leave her alone. On the other hand, Gillian couldn’t care less. She was just hurt that the boy she liked would pick someone ‘gross’ and ‘repulsive’ over her. Gillian was a pretty girl and she knew it. That’s one reason she has a lot of enemies. Another one is how she treats people, but Amada and Bryce both saw that one firsthand.
Amada has thought about what’s going to happen when everyone sees her. Some might call her ‘fake’ and some might just be friends with her because she’s pretty now. But she promised herself that when she saw Bryce Johnson face to face, she was going to try to get her best friend back. She would text him, but she feels like it would be better to talk in person. On the contrary, she feels like she should text him to apologize for not texting him. As she thought about this predicament, she pulled out her phone and opened her messages. She groaned loudly as she tried to decide what to do.
