A human and an android sat side by side on a Detroit rooftop, leaning into each other's sides. It was strangely quiet, for Detroit.

"Hey, Nines?" Gavin said as he threw a piece of popcorn at the other's head.

Nines caught the popcorn precisely, then looked away from the golden hues of the sunset that painted the view from the rooftop to meet Gavin's soft gaze.

"Why do you have popcorn with you, Gavin?"

"Got hungry."

The deviant brought it to his tongue for analysis. His LED blinked once.

"Salted. Good choice."

"Obviously. Anyway, what's your favourite memory, like, ever? I know it's not like you've been out here for very many years or months or whatever, but, I still kinda wanna know."

Nines' body involuntarily simulated a wistful sigh. He leaned back and looked to the sky again.

"...Honestly? That one time after we solved that one late night case, we were sitting in that awful parking lot and you were eating expired chips from the gas station. You know, the one with the broken sign?"

"The fuck? Why?" The detective scoffed jokingly.

"That was the first time I had ever seen you smile for real. I think that's the first time I had felt love."

"You're so fucking corny, tin-can." He said under his breath, rubbing the scar on his nose.

"You love it, though." The android said, lacing their fingers together. His skin instinctually removed, exposing the shiny white underneath.

"Yeah. Yeah, I do." Gavin mumbled, face hidden behind the paper popcorn container.
