Hiccup stared at ground as he thought about his past. The past he had long put behind. The past that he never really wanted to find out. The past Toothless said was better forgotten.
"Hey, you ok?" Hannah sat down next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Yes. I just can't believe I'm from a dragon killing village though..." He trailed off.
"Mom is also from here."
"Yeah I know."
"So.... those people over there.... who are they in your past?" Hannah carefully asked. Hiccup sighed deeply.
"The big, tall one is Fishlegs. He was kinda my friend last time, but he stopped talking to me because he didn't want to be bullied. I mean, I can understand. The short one is Snotlout. He's my cousin and he bullied me all the time when I was younger. The twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, also bullied me. And Astrid, my crush. We were best friends when we were younger, but one day she just stopped talking to me. I mean, I was starting to be called useless then so I guess she didn't want to be with someone as useless as me."
"You are not useless. And wait you had a crush on her? Do you still like her?" Hannah narrowed her eyebrows. It made no sense to her. How can he still like her after whatever she has done to him?
"I-I... don't know. Maybe I still do, deep down, but right now how? How can I after what they did to-" He choked on his own words, not being able to speak about what had happened just a few days back. Hannah patted her brother on the back.
"I-I couldn't e-even protect t-them. I-I'm so u-useless." He buried his face in his knees and hugged his knees closer to his chest. Toothless purred at his rider and nudged him comfortingly. Hiccup looked up and smiled gratefully at his best friend.
"Thank god I have you bud... I don't know what to do without you." He hugged the dragon and sighed in relief.
"It's always going to be you and me. I'm going to be by your side forever." Toothless gave a gummy smile as he assured Hiccup.
"Always."
"So.... are you chill with Fishlegs?" Hannah broke the lovely brother moment.
"Well kinda. I mean he didn't really take part in t-torturing me." Hiccup gulped.
"Gah I want to rip them apart. Except Fishlegs. He helped heal Crystal when she was injured by those muttonheads." Hannah grumbled.
"He did?"
"Yep. I don't think he belongs here, Hiccup. You should bring him along to Dragon's Edge."
"It's up to him. Anyone is welcomed, unless they kill dragons." Hiccup smiled.
Astrid stared at Hiccup from a distance. After he had awoken, he had walked over to a rock by the lake to recollect his thoughts.
"Yo Ast, quit staring." Ruffnut snapped her fingers repeatedly in front of her friend. Astrid shook her head and returned to talking to her friends.
"Sorry. I just..."
"You still like him don't you? You've liked him for the longest time." Ruffnut nudged her.
"Yes. But I doubt he likes me too." Astrid stared sadly.
"Well, I mean, we bullied him in the past till the point where he nearly committed suicide once, we also gave him multiple injuries, both physical and mental, and after 5 years the first thing we do is torture him into insanity." Tuffnut summed up.
