_______________
My head was pounding when I woke up. I blinked several times before I could see in a sharp vision again. I was looking at the ceiling and saw strangers looking at me.
They brought me into a sitting position and even if I would want to protest, I couldn't. I felt like all my energy was being sucked out of me. One of them handed me a bottle of water. I gladly grabbed it and took a few sips. My throat was dry. I looked around to see Chris and Trent holding Virgil back, and suddenly I felt very ashamed to be like this in front of him.
"Marly, we were incredibly concerned about you." Ms. Fawcett spoke up first.
I closely eyed the strangers and realized they were paramedics.
One of them explained what happened to me.
"You fainted and hit your head. You don't have a concussion, but there's a laceration on your head that needs to be stapled together. So for that we will bring you to the hospital first"I only nodded and they slowly lifted me upwards to see if I could stand properly again. I didn't dare to look at Virgil right now. I felt so embarrassed. My cheeks were probably bright red. I knew exactly that everybody will eventually know everything by tomorrow. I felt dizzy and my head was pounding.
They all walked with me to the exit.
"Get well soon, Marly. Rest yourself" Mrs Fawcett told me and Chris nodded. "Get well soon".
Virgil wanted to get on the ambulance too, but Chris was holding him back from doing so. "She'll be in good hands" he said, shaking his head in denial since he needed to stay at Melwood.I smiled, still drowsy, turned around and walked into the ambulance, laying down slowly. A tear escaped my eye, not only because of the pain but also because of the embarrassment I felt. Virgil and Trent, Chris and Mrs. Fawcett saw it and I felt so vulnerable.
"Have you eaten or drank something in the last days properly?" One paramedic cut off my thoughts.
"I drank something, yeah. But I've barely eaten anything" I confessed. I was feeling so depressed I didn't feel any appetite for anything. And it showed.
When we arrived at the hospital in Liverpool, they rolled me into the treatment room on the bed so we were quicker and I didn't have to walk.
It felt weird and intimidating to be alone in a hospital without anybody.A doctor was sitting in the room and the paramedic told her what happened.
"We need her laceration on her head stapled"She nodded, gesturing them to leave us alone in the room. I sat down on the chair and she opened the gauze bandage that I only now realized was out around my head. It was quite bloody.
"I'll give you a local anaesthetic and take care of the staples. It's important that you don't flinch, but since the skin will be numb you won't feel the pain" she explained and pushed my hair in front of my shoulders when she prepared the needle.
I looked away. I really don't want to see the needle that'll be inserted into my head in a few seconds. She finally pushed away my hair on top of my head, pushing the liquid inside. It was a weird sensation when she would have her fingers on my head but I wouldn't feel anything. Next, I only heard the clicking sounds, assuming it was done after a few noises. She wrapped my head in fresh bandage.
"So, I think you're good to go if I give you medication for the pain and an exemption for work, alright?" She said in her scouse accent and kindly smiled. I nodded.
