Rogue Undecided

:~Chapter eighteen~:

My breathing was heavy but even, and created small white clouds in the air. My paws thundered against the ground; my fur blew in the wind. My eyes were a glowing gold color. I could almost feel them shining.

Erik was right beside me. The howling grew closer.

I knew that Thayer and his pack would be making an appearance shortly, and that I only had a limited amount of time, but I planned on making those few minutes count, in any way that I could.

I broke through a clearing and froze when I came face to face with a wolf. He was baring his teeth at me and viciously growling. I snapped at his face. He stayed back.

"Shift" a powerful voice commanded, and I listened. I could hear Erik following right after me. I connected eyes with another pair of gold ones.

"What do we have here?" He sniffed the air. "Two rogues?"

"And one of them is mated to the Alpha" another cruel voice cackled.

The leaders eyes sparkled in delight. "Oh, my"

"What do you want?" I spit in annoyance. I didn't really feel like talking about Thayer with a bunch of lunatic strangers.

"I think you know very well what we want"

"Don't play games with us" Erik stepped up beside me. His voice was deep and menacing, and for the first time, he actually sounded like a rogue. "Leave, before you loose badly"

The leader growled and his little pups followed. I was so thankful at that moment that nobody could see us. I don't think that a field full of growling naked people would blow over to well.

But well, you never know anymore.

A howl in the distance caught our attention.

"It's interesting that they seem very hostile towards us, yet let you stay here" he cocked his head to the side.

"The girl I understand, but the boy...?" His second in command commented. "What is he gaining from having you here?"

Erik just growled.

"Interesting" the leaders eyes lit up. "You're not welcome here, are you?"

The howling grew closer. "We don't have much time" the beta snapped.

"I am Cyrus" the leader introduced. "Remember that name"

"We will be back before the next full moon occurs" the beta warned. "And we won't be playing then"

They turned away to leave, but Cyrus turned back around with a wicked grin on his face. "Do me a favor, would you?"

Before I could react, or even blink, a pair of claws were cutting into my flesh, and I screamed in pain.

"Deliver that message to the Alpha for me"

The group laughed satanically before shifting and thundering away.

I laid a hand on my stomach where the deep marks were, trying to capture all of the escaping blood with my hand. I was already healing, but the marks were deep, and I was loosing blood fast.

"Farrah!" a panicking Erik ran up to me, putting his hands on my wounds.

"Get me out of here" I whispered. He nodded and gently picked me up, bridal style, and started sprinting in the direction of my house.

I knew that I was leaving a blood trail, and that when Thayer showed up, he would instantly know that it was mine, and that he would know what had happen. I knew that he would freak out and come after me, and I knew that I would have to face him. A part of me knew that I wasn't ready for that, but as I looked up at the night sky, and all of the stars started to blur into one, I couldn't bring myself to care.
