Beep.

That's what I have been listening to for the past few minutes. I've been trying to move my limbs and eyelids. But sadly, I have been struggling.

I can tell I am in a hospital bed from the smell of antiseptic cleaners and the presence of sickness in the air.

"Maybe this is where I am meant to be," I think to myself, feeling my heartache remembering my mother's screams and pleas.

I should've been home.

It should've been me.

I deserve to be dead.

Thoughts like those continued to fill my mind as time continued on. I didn't want to move. I felt content being immobile.

Immersed in my thoughts, I didn't hear the door open.  I realized someone was in the room when I felt the person grab my hand.

"Come on, Cat. I need you to wake up for me." Jacob. I thought to myself. "It's very boring here with just Riley. She keeps taking my money to feed her cookie obsession." He said chuckling.

If I were awake I would laugh with him, knowing well how bad her obsession with those sugar-filled desserts.

"You've been asleep for about a week and a half. You need to wake up so we can go to the woods and celebrate your birthday." He said whispering, pushing a lock of my hair away from my face.

I had to wake up. Not only for Riley and Jacob but for myself. I had to wake up and face reality no matter how content I felt.

So I put all my physical strength to try and squeeze Jacob's fingers. I didn't feel anything so I thought I failed at my attempt to communicate with Jacob but I was proven wrong when I heard Jacob say, "Cat? Did you just move?" I laughed mentally because I succeeded. "Cat if you can hear me squeeze my fingers again." He said with hope building with each and every word.

Once again I put all my strength into squeezing his fingers but this time I felt the cool surface of his skin.

He started laughing and rushed to get a nurse. He came back moments later with a nurse.

"Hey hon, can you try and move your fingers for me?" The nurse asked assessing my form.

This time it didn't take a lot of strength to move my fingers. I started to feel my body awakening. I could feel from the soles of my feet to the tips of my fingers.

I tried to take it a step further and begun to open my eyes which was a grave mistake because the brightness in the room caused me to hiss. After taking a second to collect myself, I once again open my eyes.

Opening them I see a white ceiling, turning my head I see Jacob typing away on his phone. Most likely texting Riley to get here. Behind him, I see a petite blonde nurse behind him.
