Anne groaned as she leaned her head on her palm, fanning herself with a notebook in the other hand. She was sweating and felt like she was in a fire. She was sitting in the hot classroom along with her classmates, that were also dying of heat that day. She looked around herself.
Everyone looked so lifeless and exhausted. They were desperately trying to get at least a tiny bit of cold air into their faces by fanning themselves as well. It looked pretty funny to see their closing eyes, as they were trying to stay awake, and she chuckled at that thought a little. No one was paying attention.
Miss Stacey was talking about something as she was teaching her lesson normally. It was almost summer, it was Wednesday the last period and everyone just wanted to go home already.
Anne could hear a quiet snorting coming from Charlie Sloan that was fast asleep long ago. She would probably fall asleep too, as she was also really tired, but couldn't manage to do so because of the heat.
She and Gilbert didn't even focus on their rivalry that day.
She wondered her eyes his direction. He was trying to keep his head up by his palms too as he was trying to listen to Miss Stacey but failed. His head swang to the side from time to time when he was about to fall asleep but woke himself up. Anne smiled at his unfocused and bored face a little but wasn't even able to make a joke about it in her head.
She turned back to the blackboard and realized the notebook that she used for fanning hersel isn't working so well anymore. That's why she grabbed a textbook she had lying on her desk. She threw it only a little and cold air fastly snatched her in the face. It was a pleasant quick feeling.
,,Diana, a book makes a stronger flow of air, it helps a little," she said, her head falling backwards, making her close her eyes and part her lips. She heard some book noises so she figured, that probably some of her classmates tried it too.
,,The slate makes it even stronger," a rattling boy's voice said. She turned her head the direction. She saw Gilbert fanning himself with a slate, his head leaned on his hand, his eyes closed.
,,You might want to pay attention not to slap yourself with it," she laughed tiredly. She wasn't even able to make it an irony. Gilbert smiled a little, it was pretty funny. Anne heard a few chuckles from her class but didn't even try to recognize the voices. The others weren't listening, they were too busy keeping their faces colder than the atmosphere surrounding them.
,,I understand it is really bothering to be still here in this heat, but hold on a little more, we are almost finished!" Miss Stacey tried to cheer the scholars up a little bit. There came a few frustrated groans, but she continued.

It felt like an eternity, but really, it was just a few minutes of unbelievable heat in the schoolhouse.
,,Miss Stacey, can we go have a drink outside, just quickly?" Anne asked with her eyes almost closed, and the other scholars slowly and curiously lifted their heads, expecting their teacher's reply. She looked at her pocket watch.
,,We still have 25 minutes left, that's pretty long in this heat. Yes, go get yourself hydrated," Miss Stacey smiled and also left to the back to get a drink.
The children slowly stood up and were on their way to the door. Anne went first.
She stepped down the last stare, but suddenly felt dizzy and her head spun around. She couldn't feel herself and she started falling backwards.
