Chapter Nine💖

  It finally came. The mock exams hasn’t being easy but God has been faithful. The private lessons really paid off all thanks to my lovely parents .

We  all walked into the class for the last paper of the day. We had social studies, everyone read their books more often these days. Some still held their books as they walked into the class. I wonder if they would be able to understand or even recall a single thing later.

We were all settled now. Mr. Marcus was a teacher in Jss2 invigilated our class. He was a disciplinarian like Mr. Kunle. Probably owing to their friendship, as they were close friends.

I was through with objective questions. I flipped my paper to  answer the theory questions. Soon my answer sheet became  exhausted. I walked to the teacher's  table to get an extra answer sheet .

Coming back I see the mischievous smile on Sewa's face. Why is this one smiling now? Only God knows what she is up to. She is one of Amaka's minion and now seats behind me during this exam period. We were given new seats by the exam officer. I just walk and seat in my seat ignoring her.

Mr. Marcus walks pass my row. He is found of doing a kind of patrol when ever he invigilates. He is having his dark shades on, that’s the trick he uses to supervise. So that he can monitor the class without anyone watching his eyes.
He walks past my table and stops for a while he squats as if to pickup something. Let it not better be what am thinking.
My eyes follow his hands as they pick up some pieces of papers from the ground. He gradually unfolds them. What is going on? What could be inside them?

“Edna, what are these papers doing here? ”.“I don’t know sir. ” I answer with a shrug. “Really, okay submit your script now”. He orders me. I quietly submit it.

He tries to make a quick comparison between my script and the papers. “Well you children have gone to the extent of printing out from computer. So that we would not even be able to trace your handwriting”.

“It’s okay Edna go and kneel in my office. Once this exam is over I will report you to the principal”. My heart began to beat faster. This case is really serious, this one that it  is involving the  principal.

I left the class hurriedly my legs becoming weaker by each step I took. The shame was too much. It is so unbearable. Someone was just out to destroy my reputation in this school. Well  I pray that the truth comes out in no time.

I kneel down pondering on the recent happenings. “Edna I thought you were a good girl. I can’t still believe what happened in the class earlier on. So tell me the truth did you do it? ”Mr Marcus  questioned.

“No sir,” I say in a low voice. I knew I would never do that. I prepared fully for the exam.
“I will report you now to the principal. ”He concluded.

I wasn’t prepared to suffer unjustly. The punishment for cheating was quite scary. Two weeks suspension, reading an apology letter to the whole school in an assembly and bringing ones parent to sign an undertaking.
As much as I thought,  the principal was surprised to hear the news about me. “But Edna you are intelligent, and you come from a responsible home. why did you do it? ” He asked softly. “We need to investigate this matter Mr. Marcus. ”the principal stated .

The bell rang  and I was happy for the distraction. “Anyway since it’s already closing time you can go. Tomorrow we can continue from where we stopped”. He said in conclusion.
“Okay sir. ”, I reply.

I just pray I get vindicated and mum doesn’t get to know any of this. I pray inwardly. I can’t imagine bringing my mother to the school because of cheating.
She will deal with me ehh. School was gradually getting empty. The school had already closed.

Benita and Rachel were seated in the class probably waiting for my arrival. “So how did it go”. They ask me with caring voices.
“Well I will know the conclusion by tomorrow”. I say in reply.
I walk into the car. I must have kept him waiting for a while now. “Sorry for keeping you late sir”. I say after greeting him
