Chapter 4
“You have got to be kidding me.”
Well, that wasn’t exactly the reaction I was hoping for.
I looked down at my outfit, was it really that bad? I did my best with what I had. I was wearing a hot pink bikini top with purple bottoms, because in my haste to pack yesterday I grabbed a mismatched pair. I was wearing a loose white tank top and jean shorts over my bathing suit and I kept my hair natural in loose waves down my back. I even put on some mascara. I actually tried to appear decent, but apparently I didn’t do a very good job.
“Um, well it’s not like I was planning on going to a party and you didn’t give me much time to pack, so this was the best I could do... You can pretend you don’t know me or whatever it’s fine, I’ll just go sit by the shore,” And the insecure little Chloe is back.
With my shoulders hunched, I walked back to the car and slumped into the seat and threw my clothes from before into the backseat. Maybe I should just take Adam’s offer and sit at a hotel room while he goes to the party. No. Chloe, you will go to this party and have fun dammit. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed Adam walking back to the car. I straightened in my seat and was suddenly determined to show him that I wasn’t even fazed by what he said.
“Thanks for lunch and for letting me run into the bathroom at the In N Out and letting me change.” I said casually, not even turning to look at him. I kept my gaze on the view to my right, the sun was just beginning to set over Santa Barbara. The sky was a canvas of crimson, pink, and orange with only a little bit of periwinkle blue at the top.
“Don’t mention it. We’re gonna be at the house in like two minutes, so before you get out we need to lay some ground rules,” He turned and put his steel gaze on me.
“I’m not twelve, I can take care of myself. I’m a big girl Adam.” Was it his sole-purpose in life to annoy me?
“If you don’t recall me telling you; parties such as these are crawling with demigods. Strong, powerful, volatile half-Gods. I’ve been put in charge of keeping you safe, and I’m not going to let you go do something stupid and get yourself hurt under my watch. So, every hour you are to go back to the house and we’ll meet at the porch, so I can make sure you’re still alive.” I rolled my eyes. He looked straight at me, he looked pissed. Geez, temper much?
“If you’re not there I will find you and you’re not going to like what happens after that,” I felt like the crystal blue ring around his pupils was glowing as he looked me in the eyes. He looked really serious, and hot.
“Alright will do, are we here?” I noticed the car had stopped and I looked out the window and saw rows of dingy beach houses. Looking further out, I noticed what every house was facing, the beautiful Pacific Ocean and the sun sinking into it.
Adam noticed where I was looking, “Beautiful isn’t it?”
“Mmm,” I shook my head in response.
He gave me a few seconds to watch the sun completely sink into the inky black waters of the Pacific before he broke the silent trance I was in, “You ready?”
“Ya, I think so.”
I stepped out of the car and instantly was hit by the cool ocean breeze. Maybe I should’ve worn a sweatshirt...
I followed Adam up the sidewalk and to a house, obviously the frat we were having the party at.
The house frame was literally shaking, multicolored light’s were flashing throughout the house. As we got onto the driveway I could hear 50 cent blasting and I could see through all the windows that people were dancing and some other things...
