Chapter 5
“Chloe, you didn’t even say goodbye?” Adam’s grip was so hard on the steering wheel that his knuckles were turning white. He was clenching and unclenching his jaw with his steely eyes following Castor’s every move as he sauntered over to my car side of the car.
“What are you?” He asked as he opened my car door. I felt the cold salty air hit me like a wall, it was suddenly freezing and I could feel that the air was full of static.
I was trying to process his bazaar question, but I was getting side tracked by the violent noise my teeth chattering was making. I think I was still stunned from what I had just seen, still processing. Castor had just summoned lightning, I think. He was now pulling me out of the car, why? It’s so cold out here. He closed the door to Adam’s car, effectively shutting out the angry scream of profanities coming from his mouth.
“I said, what are you?” He whispered in my ear, his warm breath washing over my neck.
Shivering, I answered. “I could ask you the same.”
“I’m Zeus’ son,” His eyes seemed to flash gold again. “God of lightning, God of Gods...” He trailed off, rolling his eyes to make it seem as if he had given this speech a million times.
“God of the sky, Titan slayer, really shall I go on?”
“No I think you covered it.” I retorted.
“I’m his only living heir. And as head of the House of Zeus, I ask again, what are you?” He was really getting on my nerves now. I’m freezing my ass off and the only reason why I’m freezing my ass off is because he wanted to drag me out of the car to brag about his lineage. And ask me a stupid question. ‘What are you?’ What does it look like I am, tool? A martian?
“I won’t ask again, Chloe. All demigods are required to be registered, and considering this is the first time I’ve ever met you, I’m going to take a guess that you aren’t. I don’t know what Adam is doing with you, whether he’s taking you down to Zenobia himself, or trying to hide your powers- which from the damage on Ocean I can tell are impressive- you answer to me.”
I had to seriously keep myself from punching him in the face. The way he was talking, made me really wonder why I was interested him. This guy thinks he walks on air. Kinda like another half-god teenage boy I know. Actually, I can’t even group Adam with Castor. Adam has never really talked about what it’s like to be the son of a God, except that one time in the car for like 15 minutes.
“Annoyed.” I turned, not bothering to wait for a response. I had answered his question: What am I? I was annoyed.
My hand had just wrapped around the handle and I was opening the door to Adam’s coupe, but then I felt a hand on my shoulder and I felt Castor’s breath on my neck.
“I know exactly what you are, Chloe Κόρη.” He wrapped his hand over mine and pulled the door the rest of the way open.
“You are carrying very precious cargo cousin, I hope you know that,” Castor swept his gold gaze over me one last time before he shook his head and stepped back from me. “I’ll be seeing you over at the house, we’ll talk to Nereus about this. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a visit from our good friend Hestia.”
What the hell is he talking about?
“Castor I have no idea what you’re talking about, there’s no way she could be one. They’re just a legend, a myth.” Adam shook his head adamantly.
“Adam, your entire life and existence is supposed to be myth. Think about it.”
I sunk down into the leather seats of Adam’s car, thoroughly annoyed that I had no clue what was going on. Exhaling, I turned and glared at Castor then at Adam, “I honestly don’t even care what you two are talking about, even if it’s clearly about what species I am. Let’s just go to this stupid house Adam, I’m tired and hungry and cold. Can we please just go?”
