The following day was the usual for Kovu and Simba with their lectures and also accompanied by Zazu, the majordomo of Simba, flying overhead. They are again walking at the edges of their borders. Today was a new subject for Kovu.
"I think we should start with the most important part of being king." Simba started.
"Woah, what happened to "our neighboring prides" from yesterday?" Kovu asked.
"I think it would be better if we finish the more important roles of a king, since your time is shortened with you becoming a father."
"Well, you're not wrong. Let's get to it then."
"As I was saying, our subject for today is the most important role of a king and it's mostly our role in a pride. And that is patrolling your borders." He continued.
"It's important because if you miss a day of patrolling you'll risk having strangers or possibly enemies going through our territory. Let them know you're incharge and that this is your domain." Simba concluded.
"Everyday going for a walk? Sounds really boring don't you think?" Kovu asked.
"Yes, you may get tired of walking the same path every morning, but it's necessary for the protection of your own pride. Besides, you'll only do it once in a day." He replied.
"What would happen if I were to miss a day?"
"Your pride will become vulnerable to other lions that possibly will challenge you for your position."
"But it's unlikely that it'll ever happen, most of the time the animals that go here are the ones we see everyday. Cheetahs and leopards have their own territories in our land but they don't appear as a threat to us." He reassured.
They continued their stroll along their borders. They went on with the subject regarding about rogue lions that might enter in their pride, whether if they're passing by or that they may have other intentions. Their lecture lasted for a while, the fact that it's the most important role of theirs, it is something to be explained in crystal clear detail.
Meanwhile, somewhere near their borders, a lion came to Zazu's view. To his surprise he went down from the air to alert Simba.
"Sire! A rogue lion approaches our borders!" Zazu informed.
"What? Where? Lead the way, Zazu." Simba was surprised, but rather remained calm.
As Zazu led the two, Kovu was nervous about the unexpected, and coincidental event but he noticed that Simba had a serious look yet remained calm and confident. Kovu couldn't help but ask along the way.
"You're not nervous or anything?" Kovu inquired.
"I am, but you have to look like you're not. It shows that you're not afraid of what comes next." Simba admitted.
Moments later they arrived. Simba and Kovu could see him at a distance and is heading to their direction. They anticipated for the rogue's arrival. Simba tried to look formal and Kovu did the same. After minutes of waiting, the rogue finally arrived.
"Greetings, you look like you might need some help with directions." Simba greeted.
"Oh, my apologies if I may have trespassed. But may I ask where am I?"
He asked, the rogue sounded passive. The rogue sounded young as if he's at the same age as Kovu yet his size is comparable to Simba's.
"You're in the Pridelands. If you are lost, perhaps we can help you."
"The Pridelands you say? You mean the Pridelands?" The rogue's tone suddenly turned from passive to somewhat sinisterly.
Simba noticed the change of tone in the rogue's words. He became suspicious of him.
