Chapter 12: Tear-filled battle

Gloria's POV

I woke up to the sunlight peaking through the tent's entryway

I sat up to see Altyrei still sound asleep and curled up into a ball

It was cute seeing that so I decided to let her sleep a bit more and went out the tent

The fire pit I made last night had already gone out so I thought to make some simple cup noodles for breakfast

After taking out Scorch from his ball and asking him to heat up some water I placed in a pan to use for the instant noodles I set a blanket down for us to sit on and arranged some plates with pokefood for Scorch and the others

At some point Altyrei woke up and greeted me good morning and I greeted back

Once the water was hot enough I took out two cups of instant noodles and opened them slightly and poured the water in

As we waited for the noodles to be ready Altyrei tended to her Caterpie since they usually have a special diet and her Sobble and Zigzagoon played with my Scorch and Raven

"Do you think we're ready for the first gym challenge?" I asked out loud

"Hmm..? Why'd you ask?"

I motioned towards her Caterpie and the other pokemon

"Don't get me wrong but none of our pokemon had evolved yet, and I'm especially concerned for you since you only have Caterpie as your strong answer against Milo's Grass types"

Altyrei seemed to contemplate about what I said before smiling

"Why don't we have a friendly match then?"

I was surprised by her reply "Are you sure?"

She nodded

"It'll be a double battle so I will only use Sobble and Caterpie"

I'm gonna be honest, a double battle doens't seem like a bad idea and would be efficient training for both of us

"Okay, let's do it!"

We stood a good distance away from the camp so that we wouldn't accidentally destroy it but still close by

"Ready when you are!" Altyrei shouted with her Sobble and Caterpie reqdy and waiting

Meanwhile Scorch and Raven were also raring to go on our side

"Lets start! Raven Hone Claws! Scorch Ember!"

Raven flew up and sharpened his claws while Scorch covered him by firing Ember towards the Caterpie

That managed to dodge the Ember quite well

"String Shot!"

Altyrei's Caterpie shot a strong silky string towards my pokemon which would cripple their speed if they were caught

Luckily Scorch and Raven were smart enough to avoid the strings

"You have to be less obvious about you plan Altyrei!"

She just grinned

It was then that I realized that her Sobble was nowhere to be seen

"Did you think that was it?"

Suddenly all of the strings her Caterpie made jumped into action and surrounded Raven and Scorch

It surprised me and obviously my pokemon which led them to getting tangled by the strings and unable to escape and also start to cry uncontrollably

Slowly something started to appear beside the trapped Rabbit and Bird pokemon and it turned out to be Sobble who manipulated the strings

"How'd your Sobble do that?"

Altyrei still had a grin on her face

"It was Sobble's special ability, he has the ability to blend into his surroundings when he gets wet and also makes any other pokemon start to cry when he does"

As soon as she finished explaining I suddenly felt my eyes water and also cried

The tears wouldn't stop coming and my vision turned watery but I could notice that Altyrei was also crying

"What's happening to us?" I asked through my tear-filled eyes

"I think Sobble's quirk can affect people as well" she replied

I wasn't sure if she sobbed or laughed in the end but we ended up crying for about 30 minutes before we calmed down

Altyrei's POV

Okay I'll admit, it was my best strategy, but I didn't know the scope of Sobble's crying power

But it was still effective, albeit a little too effective

Anyways, Gloria is still a bit mad about making her go through a crying fit and ended the battle there so that she could dismantle the tent and pack her things

When I volunteered to help her she just replied with a deathly smile and a "don't worry about it"

Looks like I wouldn't be using this strategy for a long time

After she had packed her things she motioned for us to continue our walk through route 4 and reach Turffield

Short chapter today, just wanted to post something as the dlc is almost here so I might not be able to write anything for a while
