Chapter 14: The Grass Challenge

Gloria's POV

The next day came by quickly and it was already 10am

Leaving only about an hour before it was our turn for the challenge

We were told to wait in the locker room along with a bunch of other challengers

I managed to sit together with Altyrei and Hop with the latter clearly jumping on his seat with excitement

"Man! If only we could just blow past the trial part and fight the gym leader directly" Hop suggested

"If that were to happen then the gym leader would be swamped with challengers the entire day" Altyrei argued "Though I would say this is taking quite a long time"

True, the locker room was filled with challengers almost to the brim

One of the league staff was stationed by the door leading to the challenge area

Not soon after a blonde haired man wearing a referee outfit emerged from the entrance

"All right everyone! The first part gym challenge is about to start so I'll explain how it works" he shouted which gathered everyone's attention

"First of all, you may call me Dan and I'll be acting as the referee for the challenges"

He then motioned everyone to look at the screen

It turned on and it was a panning shot of the challenge area which consisted of four areas each blocked off by stacks of hay and one of the outer ones which I assumed was the starting point had a bunch of Wooloos scattered about

"The trial is this: Chase our Unruly Wooloo!"

This caused some to laugh, groan, or utter words of confusion

"Ahem! The goal is to get the herd of Wooloos to the final area within 20 minutes and that is all there is to it!"

Despite their earlier reactions, everyone seemed to gain confidence after hearing that was all they have to do

Ofcourse, I didn't buy it

I felt like he intentionally left out a crucial detail in this trial but no one else seemed to have noticed

"So the order in which the participants will be in alphabetical order and our first challenger is..." Dan looked through a clipboard handed to him by another league staff

I wish the poor sucker who'll be first goodluck, since they'll be used as a reference point by everyone else

"Our first challnger is number 12, Challenger Altyrei!"

Wait... WHAT!

Altyrei's POV

My name was called first, Me out of all people!

Why did my name have to start with A!?

"Is challenger Altyrei not here? Number 12 challenger Altyrei"

Of course only my uniform had the number 12 printed on it so I couldn't hide that I was the one they were looking for

With a bit of reluctance I walked up to the entrance and was led past the door

I managed to get glimpse of my companion and Gloria seemed like she did something wrong while Hop was just jealous that I was first

Once I had arrived at the starting point Dan and the league staff left the field and a whistle was blown signalping the start of the challenge

I was stiff frozen, I had no idea what to do!

In front of me were the herds of Wooloo all seem to be waiting for something
