Skylor's POV
We show up to the dance, and it's already in full swing. The dance floor is flooded with people. The dancing ranges from innocent hip sways to other very risqué moves. It's just like a party, except it smells better, the scenery is prettier, and there are teachers supervising it.
Nya and Jay really went above and beyond with the decorations. Greenery is everywhere. Potted plants line the outside of the room. There's a vine archway above the entrance. The floor is covered in flower petals, creating a magical feeling. To add to the feeling, the lights are off, but there's a gentle green glow over the room.
"Jay and Nya really outdid themselves," I say in awe, looking around the room.
"They surely had help," Harumi dismisses their work.
"It was just them. Nya had to leave the house super early today," Kai backs me up.
Harumi rolls her eyes,"Whatever. Let's go dance." She tugs on Kai's arm, which is looped around hers, dragging him onto the dance floor. The rest of us follow.
We end up in a close circle in the middle of the dance floor. All of us dance to the music, some of us with more rhythm than others. We lip sync along to the songs we know, jumping up and down. Quickly, I get thirsty.
"I'm going to go get a water. Anyone else want to come?" I say loudly, trying to make myself audible over the music. Kai goes to say something, but Harumi glares at him.
"I'll go. I'm starving," Cole makes his way out of the circle. The two of us navigate the dense crowd of people, slipping through any cracks we can find. When we finally get out, I let out a sigh of relief.
We walk out of the gym. To our left, there's a small little carnival set up. Various games, such as ping pong and a giant connect 4, are sitting out. Just like inside, flower petals are scattered all over the ground.
To our right, Jay and Nya sit behind the table of the snack bar. The easy-up is decorated with strings of flowers and leaves. On the table in front of them, there are various snacks, such as candy, chips, gum, and various types of drinks.
Jay and Nya are wearing corresponding outfits, his blue bow tie matching her blue dress. She's counting money while he talks to her. Both of them have smiles across their faces, even though it's clear that Nya is trying to concentrate. Jay says something to her, and her concentration completely breaks. She starts laughing, setting down the money.
"If you don't want to go over there, I can get whatever you want," I offer to Cole, considering his past with Nya.
"No, it's fine. I'm going to see her eventually," the two of us walk over. When Nya spots me, she smiles.
"Skylor! How's your first school dance going?" she smiles at me, completely ignoring Cole.
"Good. It was definitely a mistake to wear heels though," I look down at my feet, which are absolutely killing me.
"I only wore heels to a dance once, and I regretted it. It's absolute torture. The only plus side to being in this boot is that people can't be on my case for not wearing one," she admits. "Did you stop by to say hi, or do you want to get something?"
"Can I have one water please?" I ask. Jay grabs a water out of the cooler and hands it to Nya. She then hands it to me.
"That'll be five dollars."
"Five dollars for one water? Isn't there a 'friends of Nya' discount?"
Nya looks over at Jay. "The ASB teacher said I couldn't sell the water for anything under five dollars, but we can throw in a free bag of skittles," he explains. I nod.
