Chapter 22

Harumi's POV

I enter the party with one objective: get Kai back. As soon as I enter the main room, I go into the kitchen to make myself a fake drink. I'd prefer to stay sober, but people would get concerned if I didn't drink, so this is the alternative.

With apple juice in a red cup, I walk around the party. It's extremely difficult to find Kai with the sheer amount of people in such a confined space. While I can't find Kai, I find Skylor, who is dancing with Mackenzie and PIXAL. I smirk at the sight. That just means Kai will be that much easier to get to.

When I find Kai, he's leaving the dance floor, heading into the kitchen. I quickly rush over to him, intercepting him before he can reach the kitchen. "Can we talk?"

"Laater," he only slightly slurs. Perfect, only semi drunk Kai.

"Please, it's important," I look up at him, batting my eyelashes. My hand runs up and down his arm.

"What is it?" he asks, a bit frustrated, but still as attentive as he can be right now.

"I'm sorry I've been so distant. I've been dealing with family issues," I easily lie. If he was Lloyd, he'd be able to tell that I was obviously lying, but since he's Kai, he can't tell. "The distance, though, has made me realize something."

"What?"

I stand on my tip toes, and he leans down so I can whisper in his ear. "I want you back. You complete me." I lie once again.

"Harumi, you know..."

"That we break up a lot?" I finish for him, taking a step closer. "I'm aware, but that also means we get back together a lot." I get even closer, so my lips are just hovering over his.

He pulls away. "Harumi, I don't want to..."

"Skylor is leading you on. Isn't it obvious? It's been nearly 2 months. If she was going to date you, she would've," I break the truth to him. He winces at my words. "Besides, remember our plans? We're going to be homecoming queen and king together, the absolute power couple."

He still doesn't seem convinced. I go to my last resort. Slowly, I start placing kisses from his collar bone all the way up to the corner of his lips. I try to fake as much passion as possible, but it just feels wrong.

"We're perfect together Kai," I tell him. With my hands, I rub his shoulders while also gazing into his eyes. I used to think they were the most gorgeous eyes ever, but that was before I looked into Lloyd's.

I place my lips against his, starting to kiss him. He starts to kiss me back, hesitant at first, but once he loosens up, he places his hands on my hips and pulls me closer.

"Kai?"

Skylor's POV

Mackenzie, PIXAL, and I dance to the music, letting it dictate our movements. Depending on the song, we jump, sway our hips, or just do whatever feels right. Currently, the three of us are jumping up and down, singing along to the song.

However, my attention keeps getting drawn away. Kai is dancing in the center of the mosh pit, also jumping up and down. He looks like he's having a great time, even though his best friend is on a date with his sister.

I've realized recently that I can't wait a lot longer on my relationship with Kai. He's proved to me that he's committed. Every time I'm near him, I have an increasing urge to tell him. I finally think I'm ready to give us a chance.

He leaves the dance floor, a red cup in his hand. "How do I look?" I ask the other girls, ready to follow after him.

"Amazing as always, but why?" Mackenzie asks, trying to follow my gaze.
