Adolpha lay across Caius' chest upon the picnic blanket, the sky sparkling above them as they spoke absentmindedly and she basked in the feeling of his hand dancing through her thick curls as he spoke softly about his life. It was a subject she enjoyed hearing about, Caius had so many stories, he'd seen so many things. He was like a living, breathing history book and even though she had seen some intriguing things, even she was in awe at the words he spoke.
"I was born in 1300 BC" he mused and she looked up at him, eyes taking in the sharp definition of his jaw.
"So... You're like old old" she laughed and he scoffed but then proceeded to chuckle along.
"I suppose so. 3319 years... Give or take a few" he mumbled and she blinked in shock.
"I'm marrying a fossil" she finally decided and his chest rumbled as he laughed rowdily at her. Caius' never laughed with anybody as much as he laughed with her. She brought out a side of him that he didn't even know existed but he found himself loving the feeling.
"I don't remember much of my human life, other than that my family were quite poor, I had a sister." he frowned, contemplating and thinking very carefully about it. "Human life fades over time, the memories get replaced with new ones. I don't even remember how I became a vampire. But I was born at least a century before Aro... Even if he wishes you to believe otherwise." he winked.
"And then you joined them?" she hummed, playing absentmindedly with his tie.
"Yes. I joined Marcus and Aro, they were already together then, planning world domination" he winked. "I had Athenodora with me by then... I found her when I had a run-in with the Romanians but... Our relationship wasn't like this one. We were friends before we were together. I did not marry her until I was over a thousand years old." he informed, playing with her hair calmly. "...Does it affect you?"
"Does what?" she frowned, looking up from where she was tracing his tie clip calmly.
"Athenodora" he returned and her mouth made an 'o' shape as she realised what he was saying. Sighing, she dropped her hand lazily onto his chest and looked up into his eyes.
"Yes." she shrugged. "It affects me every time I see her, or she's in the same room as us because I know that there is a part of you, that will always love her. I know that you spent almost all of your life with her... And who am I to come storming in to change that? I can't help the jealousy, you have done everything with her. But I know there's no use in taking it out on you. You cannot help that you were together" she frowned.
"I'm sorry. That you feel that way. I-- If there was anything I could do to make a difference, I would. But I don't love her anymore. You said I did but I do not. I haven't since the moment I saw you, I just had to come to terms with it. And of course, I loved her once, I remember loving her, I just don't have those feelings anymore and she doesn't either. She is completely infatuated by Kurt and I am happy for her. Truth be told, what I have with you is more real than anything I ever felt with her. She and I both know that to one another, we were merely place holders. I intend to be with you much longer than I was with her... How can you die? You're... Effectively human? And our venom doesn't work on you?"
"Yes." she frowned. "Blue wolves can't die from illness, natural illness or contagious illness. We couldn't catch the plague for example. Our bodies are effectively frozen at the time in which we became wolves, therefore we can't catch an illness unless we had it already. We have been toying with the idea of hybrids recently. Discussing it really. The hybrid child that the Cullens have... She is very similar to us. It begs the question that if she perhaps had a child with a Child Of The Moon, the product would be like us, far enough removed from vampires not to thirst for blood or acquire the traits of a vampire but close enough to have a semblance of immortality." she explained.
"That makes sense" Caius frowned softly.
"However, I can die from wounding. I could die a natural human death in that sense. I can't die from old age. But if someone shot me, or stabbed me. If I jumped off a cliff or drowned... They are all things that could easily kill me. Our bodies are slightly resilient due to the wolf inside of us... But we don't have extreme healing or anything, we just have a good pain tolerance. Which figures considering we break every bone in our body once a month" she huffed.
"Does it hurt still? It is almost a full moon" he noted with a frown and she smiled softly.
"It is still agony, breaking all those bones but... I don't know, I guess I'm used to it? With Kurt so close and our new allegiance with the Italian wolves, I don't get as ill when the full moon approaches. Not like that first time. I feel weaker... Drained but... I'm okay" she smiled reassuringly and Caius returned it as his fingers gently took her chin and she reached up to kiss him passionately.
"I think it's going to rain" Caius noted with a frown. "We should probably get going, we have been here for hours. Poor Alec has probably been bored out of his mind."
"He's just been waiting?" she was quite shocked.
"Well, we do need a guard, Innamorata. We are a King and Queen after all."
"An Alpha" she sighed, shrugging and he narrowed his eyes.
"You are my Queen, Adolpha."
"I like the sound of that."
