CHAPTER 5- HER VOICE

Vincent's POV

"Uh sorry hindi naman ako tumingin sayo. Uhm hi." 'yon nlang lumabas sa bibig ko as I picked up my notebook . Gusto ko kasing magtake down ng notes sa mga orientations about this school para hindi naman ako malito sa system dito. Hindi ko alam pero ang cool ng pagsabi nya nung 'Drop that stare, new boy.' haha! Wala ba sya sa mood? Bakit? Eh first day of school pa naman. Sa bagay hindi lahat masaya pag first day pero eto ako excited.

Hindi sya naghello back sa akin so I assume she's really in a bad mood so I shouldn't bother her.

"Don't mind her 'new boy', ganyan talaga 'yan. Wag ka lang makulit hahaha." the student on the other side of me said.

What does he mean by that? Ganyan talaga sya?

Teka lang so 'new boy' na talaga ako? May pangalan kaya ako! Vincent! Pogi ng pangalan ko tapos 'new boy' lang tawag nyo sa akin.

"Anong 'new boy'? Kristan, Quivanoz nga eh Quivanoz! Anak ng artista at politisyan tapos tatawagin mo lang ng ganyan?" sabi ng nasa tabi sabay pitik sa ulo nya. Hahahaha! Wag naman, umiinit na ang sistema ko sa hiya.

The school bell then rang for recess. She stood up and went outside with her music and her book. Grabe focus na focus sya sa libro nya while the other students are jumping for excitement as they tell stuffs to each other papuntang canteen at don lang sya may sariling mundo.

I took off my look at her when the teacher suddenly called me.

"Mr. Quivanoz, since you don't know much about the school yet, I'd like to set you up with a school tour guide and that will be your seatmate, Ms. Saldova."

"Ms. Saldova?" I asked.

"Yes. You might notice something off from her this first day of school but don't mind her she'll adjust just fine with this task."

Something off? Is something bothering her? Why her? Hindi naman sa nagrereklamo ako pero wala talaga sya sa mood eh. Hindi pwede sa vibes ko. Happy vibes ako lagi ,eh sya hindi happy. Bahala na nga. Medyo kinakabahan ako kung ganyan tlaga sya lagi dahil seatmate ko sya for the whole semester at hindi ko alam kung paano mag work out toh. Maingay pa naman akong tao. I'll just try cheering her up sometimes.

When I was about to go back to the classroom, I saw her walking back to her seat. Ah since na wala ako dun bumalik sya sa seat nya. I had this sudden idea to block her way then took one of her earphones off with a smile on my face.

Parang ganito ako ngayon:

"Hi again! Hindi tayo nakapagusap ng maayos kanina. Why don't we start this year being frie-" she didn't let me finish my words...

" Excuse me? friends? Why don't we start being enemies since you unmannerly took off my earphone and blocked my way or that being said, we should never friends."

Then I went to this:

"Oooh okay lang yan pre!"

"Salbahis talaga si Sien kahit kailan."

...

May point sya, napakawalang manners naman talaga nun pero ayaw ko ng enemies eh.

Hindi ko dapat ginawa yon. I was supposed to cheer her up but I failed.

The class started on again but still on introductions and orientations. 3 hours had already passed, mainit ang panahon, pero napakalamig ng atmosphere na meron ako dito. I didn't mind her nalang maybe something bad happened to her. The school bell rang for dismissal tapos tumatak sa isip ko tungkol sa school tour guide stuff na yon. I don't know if she knows it yet but I don't know how to convince her as well. Nung lumakad sya palabas, I just pulled off ny courage to walk with her.

"Uuwi ka na ba?" tanong ko.

She just ignored me na para bang buhangin lang ako sa tabi nya. Sabi ko na nga ba eh hindi ako sasagutin :'(
Pero nagpatuloy parin akong naglakad sa tabi nya.Huminto sya at...

"What's your deal?" tanong nya. Medyo kinabahan ako dun.

"Uh nothing really, I just want someone to guide me toward the school exit." ang bobo ko naman dun knowing that students were going the same way to the exit. Hindi ko alam maybe I just want to convince her about the school tour guiding stuff or maybe I just want to be friends with her?

"You've been on my nerves since this morning. Tumigil kana kundi-"

Hindi nya natapos ang sinasabi nya dahil dumating si Ms. Olivia.

"Oh magkasama na pala kayo. Ms. Saldova, I forgot to remind you earlier that I assigned you as Mr. Quivanoz's school tour guide since you violated a rule."

Oh that's why , dahil pala may na violate syang rule. Nagtataka talaga ako nung una dahil alam na ni Ms. Olivia na something was off about her but she gave it as her task anyway. I saw her face immediately reacted to what Ms. Olivia said. I guess she was suddened?

"Excuse me, Ms. Olivia but a minor rule being violated but punished with such thing as being a school tour guide is so irrelevant. Ask someone else to do it." woah ang cool nun ha. Sa bagay may point sya. May iba nga kanina makakapal ang make-up tapos may nagpakulay pa ng buhok which is hindi ko talaga alam kung okay lng ba o hindi pero hindi man lang sila binigyan ng task at ayun umuwi na.

"Ms. Saldova, being a school tour guide isn't such a big deal too. This could be your opportunity-"

"Opportunity of what exactly, Ms. Saldova? To socialize? To begin something with people? Naawa ka na ba sa akin? Well cut that off, dahil hindi mo ako masyadong kilala para mapunta ka sa puntong awa na yan."

What exactly is going on right now? Hindi sa chismoso ako pero parang ganun na nga.

Awa?

Sinadya ba to ni Ms. Olivia? Alam nyang wala sya sa mood pero bakit nya parin pinapagawa sa kanya? Socialize? Is she an introvert? Nothing wrong with that tho.

"Umm sorry that you have to see that, Mr. Quivanos. You see, she's been like that since elementary. She doesn't really like hanging out with people. Her father says not to mind her dahil ganyan lng talaga daw sya but I just want to give it a try to give her such opportunities especially last year na nya ngayon as a high school student. Hindi sya dapat maging ganyan habang buhay."

since elementary?

Maging ganyan habang buhay?

She's been like that for years. I kinda went blank for awhile, not really processing well sa mga naririnig ko ngayon. Not my business tho. I just don't know if this year could go well.

"Don't worry, Mr. Quivanoz. If you want, you can just change your seat with someone you're more comfortable with and I can just cancel her task as your school tour gui-"

"No it's okay, Ms. Olivia, don't bother. I can manage."

Did I just say that?

I don't know but I don't have the urge to pity her or whatsoever hindi dahil sa sinabi nya kanina. Bakit ganun mood nya? 'Ganyan talaga sya.'? May kaibigan ba sya? Not that I'm so curious or anything pero baka hindi kami mag get along.

I really do wish this year could go well, this time.
