The role of Tyler was written specifically for you.... How did you approach the role?

Well it didn't take too much. Luckily having been friends with Charlie for the last eight years I figured if he wrote Tyler for me to play, he was basically writing my personality in a different situation. So I just had fun with it.

Mulligans was shot entirely in your hometown of Victoria, British Columbia. Was it exciting to return to shoot a film?

It was very cool. It felt so comfortable to be there—it helped my performance. Plus I knew I would ALWAYS someday get to go back to shoot something, so it was awesome it was my buddy's film. That HE wrote! Crazy.

You have one of the most quotable lines in the film—"Go Steelers." Do you feel that guys generally have a difficult time showing their love for each other?

I think EVERYBODY has a hard time showing their love for one another. Really, the words don't matter, right? It's the intent behind them. Funny thing about the "Go Steelers" line is that neither Charlie nor I like the Steelers or know anything about the Steelers. Or football for that matter!

What do you think the overall message of the film is?

People are who they are. And it takes more effort to hate people than it does to love them. Plus I don't know too many people that say "Oh man. I wish I hadn't have wasted all that time loving that person."
