Logan watched Patton and his adopted little brother, Xander, toss the bright red kickball back and forth. Patton was grinning and Xander? Xander was ecstatic about the existence of this ball. He was giggling like mad, a lopsided, childish grin on his face.
Logan swore that his best friend's little brother would indeed be the death of him. Despite being called robotic by many, he had quite the adoration for the small boy. His chubby cheeks and frizzy black hair forming a small afro around them was just the cutest thing to him.
Though, many people didn't like that Xander and Patton were brothers. Patton, like most people in their area, was white and had hazel eyes.
Xander did not.
Xander was black. Though, Patton loved Xander like he was his biological younger brother and so did Logan. Why would they do anything different, after all? The two researched how to be the best ally that they could be and would apologize deeply if they were being too aggressive about it as not wanting to come off as too 'white-savior-y' as many would put it.
But now, Logan was retrieving the little boy's ball, only to find a prince-like man in the woods.
Remus Darwin Grove, as he called himself.
Logan pulled his hand away quickly. He was startled the prince-like man had done this, slightly disgusted that he had done this, and confused as to why he had done this. He cleared his throat and fixed his glasses.
"Well, Remus, you seem to take cosplay very seriously. Who are you cosplaying?" Logan asked, giving Remus a once over. The man was considerably taller than him and, despite being dressed so well, his hair was unruly and flopped over his right eye. There was a single gray streak in the front of his hair, which he assumed was dyed, the rest being a greasy, slightly matted dusty brown.

"Cosplaying? What is cosplaying?" Remus tilted his head a little, confused by the new word. Logan seemed a little startled.
"Never mind. Why are you wearing such an extravagant outfit?" Logan asked, shaking his head and waving his hand as if swatting away the topic like it was a bug.
"I'm a prince! I told you. Did you hit your head on that ball thing too?" Remus asked, frowning a bit. Suddenly his face lit up. "Oh! You must know about this! Where are we?
"Er...We're in Florida? Where did you think we were?"
"Florida? I'm not familiar with this kingdom...Tell me, Logan. Have you ever heard of Argoyle?"
"As in the ancient kingdom? Yes. Most everyone in this town does. We learn about it in fourth-grade history class."
"Ancient? No no no- A-Argoyle isn't ancient. It's still around. That's where we are right now, right?"
"We're in Argoyle Park..but the town portion of the kingdom was burnt down in 1839.."
"1839?! Wa-wait, what year is it?" Remus began to panic. It was past 1839? Last he checked it was only 1743! Oh no...had he..?
No. He couldn't have.
Surely not...
"It's 2020...Mr. Grove, are you feeling quite alright?" Logan tilted his head a little, seeming slightly concerned as to why he was asking such basic questions.
"N-No...no. It's not- it can't be. No. It isn't true..! I-It isn't true..." Remus suddenly fell backward and collapsed to the ground. Shock and panic overwhelmed him. Surely it couldn't be 2020? Surely this was some sick joke? His family wasn't dead! He'd seen them just an hour and a half ago! They weren't de-
