Zion

Before I went to meet up with the girls I drove to the hospital to check up on my mom and how she was holding up. I know that her being there has already made her miss home she is not a fan of hospitals at all.

I was there with her physically but my mind was far away on a planet of it's own. Things are not going well for me right now my business is going under, I'm about to go back to life of crime with my friends and to make everything worse my love life is not a bed of roses either. Mom put her hand on top of mine. I looked at her with her everlasting beautiful smile. "what's wrong?" She asked.

I sighed. "Nothing, ma."

"you are my son, I know when something is troubling you. You been very quiet." she said.

I kissed her hand. "it's just minor set backs but don't worry about me I'll be fine."

Her eyes were still glued on me. "you'll have to do better than that."

I chuckled. "the company is not doing well."

"what happened?" She asked worryingly. This is what I didn't want.

"I guess it's not attracting a lot of people and it's drowning while dragging me with it." I told her the truth.

"there's nothing you can do? Maybe Turn the situation around?" She asked. I was gonna turn it around but I can't tell her that.

"that's what I'm trying to do." I told her the half truth.

"I know you can do it Zion you have invested so much in that that restaurant." She tried motivating me. I smiled at her. "So Ziyah tells me that someone has a girlfriend."

I looked down chuckling. "Ziyah and her big mouth."

Mom looked interested. "who is she?"

"things are not that serious between us." I lied. I didn't feel like telling my mother I got catfished.

"either way I wanna know." She pressured me on the issue.

I paused for a while. "her name is Brianni. She stays in the neighbourhood we used to stay in before we moved"

She looked at the ceiling. "Brianni... Brianni.." She then looked at me. "the name sounds very familiar."

"Brianni Parker." I told her.

"Brianni Parker... wait are you talking about...?" I nodded "what!?"

"you know her?" I asked. She looked real surprised. I hope she's not a hoe like her sister. But she don't look like that type of girl.

"Yes, we go to the same church such a well reserved girl." She smiled. "how did you get her?"

"we just started talking years ago. We became friends and here we are today. Funny thing is, she's the reason I wanted to look at life in another way besides the streets. She's the reason I believed I could own a business and be successful on it. She's the reason I'm not dead and wasn't caught up in a lot of prison drama." I told her.

"I cannot believe this." She looked really surprised like I said Beyoncé or something.

"why? Am I not good enough for her?" I said irritated.

She put her hand on my cheek. "I didn't say that baby."

"so you think I'm good for her?" I asked. She cleared her throat. I scoffed.

"Zion, I adore your choice of a girl but I  don't think her mother is gonna be thrilled with you dating her daughter. She's a very good girl. Her future is bright and people that know her can see she's going far with her academics." Mom said.
