Atticus stood at the edge of the icy cliff, gazing across the snow-capped mountains stretched in front of him. He smiled, thinking of everything he had accomplished in the twenty years he had been on this Earth. He closed his eyes, breathing in a breath of fresh mountain air and exhaling softly. Atticus had entered a world of tranquillity, meaning that he was not expecting the voice.
"Atticus," it whispered.
Turning around abruptly in alarm, Atticus slipped on the ice, losing his balance and plummeting down the cliff. The world before him flashed white and he found himself re-encountering his past. Visions of his childhood friend, his first day of school, birthdays long gone passed before his eyes, all tinged a golden colour.
Suddenly, something shifted in his chest. A jolt. The memories changed course like a train changing tracks. Images of his mother's funeral, failed job applications and financial issues all came rushing towards him, but this time, tinged a menacing red colour.
Before Atticus hit the ground, his mind went blank and he felt his body go numb. A brief coolness rushed over his body before he passed out, succumbing to the darkness.
