"hey!" kai whisper shouted, tiptoeing into georgia's room with something hiding behind his back, making sure to be quiet as both of their parents had just recently fell asleep.
"kai!" a much younger georgia exclaimed back, making kai wince slightly but he didn't say anything, he didn't want to ruin her excitement.
as if on cue, both of them looked each other dead in the eyes- smiles plastered over their faces, as they exposed what they had been hiding from each other the whole encounter.
a very audible gasp was heard from the younger girl as her brown eyes were ripped from her brothers blue ones in pure excitement, catching sight of what the older boy was holding.
"happy birthday baby!" kai spoke through a heavy smile, not letting it falter for a second.
the girl, just turned 9, pounced on her older brother, attacking his cheek with a painfully slobbery kiss.
"oh thank you, thank you so much!"
she began to feel embarrassed, holding a card she had made for her brother, feeling though it was insignificant compared to what he had gotten her for their joint birthday.
"hey! no, none of that!" kai took the present out of his sisters remarkably smaller hands, his smile brightening as he looked at the front, scrutinising the craft so he didn't miss a thing on the jam-packed card.
"i love it baby, and anyways, i knew that this would happen, so i bought myself a present 'from you'." kai pointed to the upper half of the girls body, right next to her heart before shaking his wrist in an abrupt manner, allowing the girl to take notice of the bracelet he was wearing.
she grabbed her brothers wrist, examining the jewellery.
georgia rushed to grab the coffee coloured teddy she had just received that sported the matching necklace, not taking her eyes off of the blue and silver item in front of her.
in the moment, both peering down at the matching pieces that were presented before them, they looked oddly alike- despite the noticeable age difference.
wrapping her arms around his frame, the girl nuzzled her head into her brothers neck, allowing tears to flow freely out of her chocolate coloured eyes.
kai placed his large palm on her tiny back, rubbing circles with his thumb before pulling away.
"although mr patch is looking like a major babe right now, i have a feeling that you'd rock it far better than he is." kai stated whilst holding back a laugh, putting emphasis on 'far', causing his sister to smile even more than she already was.
flinging herself round so her back was now facing kai's chest, georgia lifted her hair up so her brother could place the pendant around her neck.
"you know, as long as we have these with us at all times, we'll always be okay. we'll be together no matter what." kai whispered. hearing his younger sister yawn, he took this as his sign to travel back to his room.
he placed a light kiss on the girls forehead, tucking her in tightly before leaving the room, hearing a quiet 'happy birthday kai' before soft snores filled the room.

i sat and sulked in my room for about a week before i finally had enough. it was unfair for my father to do this to me. i was 18 yet he still treated me like i was a child.
i knew that i had to find a way to sneak out. my dad had put my mum on 'georgia patrol' so she would constantly check my whereabouts, making it extremely difficult to try anything out of the ordinary but i was starting to feel nauseous just looking at the 4 walls that make up my bedroom.
luke was probably confused as to why i hadn't come back. i had practically stolen his earphones and i felt terrible for it. i wish i had gotten his number sooner. i would've been able to explain to him what happened and we could've figured something out.
the only thing i really cared about was going to see luke. i didn't want him to think that i was trying to steal his belongings and i certainly didn't want him thinking that i was trying to take advantage of him and his kindness.
my clock read '19:28' and i texted lily, asking her if she could pick me up, obviously telling her to park in the next road down so it was less likely that i'd be caught sneaking out.
luckily, my bedroom window was right above the porch, making it easier for me to slip in and out of my room if and when i wanted to, although i had never actually done it before this moment.
laying my pillows out in a position that looked like i was sleeping, knowing that my mother wouldn't get close enough to check if i actually was or not, i slipped out of the spacious gap left by my window.
i heard my phone go off, signalling to me that lily had arrived, i dropped down onto the smaller, protruding room below me as gracefully as i could before following the same routine to get down onto the wheelie bins.
suddenly panicking about the possibility of getting caught, i sprinted as fast as i could into the connecting road, seeing lily smirking at me through the rear view mirror as i approached.
"ah so i see you've finally decided to join me. welcome to the dark side georgi, there's no turning back now!" lily almost warned as such as i climbed into her jeep.
"ha ha! very funny!" i rolled my eyes at her dramatic self before explaining my reason for sneaking out and needing her help.
she started her car up again, placing it into first gear before pulling off.
we talked like we hadn't seen each other in years even though we spoke on the phone every night without fail. lily teased me far too many times about luke for my liking but i chose to ignore her childish ways and would quickly change the subject.
"aww little georgi is in L-O-V-E! what happened? i still remember you being a little tiny baby! oh, they grow up so fast!" lily blubbered, pretending to wipe away tears from her eyes. i did nothing but roll my eyes at her with a smile on my face.
it was only when the car came to a stop that i realised where we were. i realised that i had to face luke again and explain the reason for my disappearance.
almost instantaneously, my stomach dropped and my throat felt as if it was closing up. i felt nervous. it was nice to feel something.
lily leaned over me, unlocking the car door, refusing to let me bottle it.
"oh come on georg, the other week you were practically in his pants and now you're scared? if you don't do it, i will."
i knew that lily wasn't joking, so, to save myself from even more problems and issues, i unbuckled my seatbelt and stepped out from the monster truck of a car, hearing my best friend do the same a few moments later.
as i cautiously made my way to the glass doors that i had become so familiar with over the years, lily trailed closely behind- ready to put me back on my path if i planned on changing my mind.
i thought about it for a moment but i didn't.
pushing the heavier than expected door away from my body, my eyes fell to my feet.
glancing up from the floor, almost instantly, brown eyes met blue.
