"This is the great glass Wonkavator," said the creator as Alex took her time to admire it, "an elevator can only go up and down but the Wonkavator can go sideways, and slantways, and longways, and backways, and any other ways that you can think of. Just push a button and zig you're off! And up until now, I've pressed them all. Except one. This one." They followed his finger to the small silver circle at the center of a red plastic circle.

"Go ahead Charlie." "Me?" He nodded, the boy pressed the button and they were off.

It sounds crazy but somehow Alex knew not to be afraid; maybe it was because of the delightful turn of events, or the man's contagious smile, but she still felt light as a feather when they broke through and hovered over the world like three happy birds. "Alex, our town looks so pretty." She smiled warmly. "It sure does Charlie, it sure does." In the air far from the world's trouble, or so it felt, Alex had time to think.

This truly had been a wonderful day. I never would've thought my life could turn out like this; one minute kicked out of a job, the next taken in by the world's most generous family, and suddenly I'm at a chocolate factory with the boy who's like a brother to me. Alex watched in happy silence as Willy revealed his plans, but as the words registered she found herself looking back upon the world with a frown.

He and his family will be well provided for the rest of their lives. But I'm not part of them, not really. Soon I'll be back on the streets, alone. She bit back her tears, fists curling over one of the bars.

From his spot hugging Charlie, Willy carefully watched the woman. He already assumed she wasn't exactly part of Charlie's family, from the beginning of the tour he had known. But the fact that she finished his songs, wasn't afraid of the tunnel, looked at him with such a sparkle in her eyes...He had known her only a day but felt as though he had waited for her for much longer.

"Charlie?" The boy pulled back from the hug. "Yes Mr. Wonka?" "There is one last thing I'd like to ask of you." Charlie lightly shrugged. "Sure." Willy's gaze returned to Alex; her face glowing with sunshine and her red hair like a flicking flame.

"Permission to date your lovely sister."

Alex's eyes popped open, her head whipping around so fast her hair smacked her in the face. Charlie nodded in a heartbeat and the chocolatier smiled.

"It is you isn't it...Lexie?" Her eyes teared up at the nickname from her dreams. "Yes." He stands and holds out his arms, with a tearfully forced laugh she runs and practically falls into his embrace. When they part he gently brushes her tears away, smiling sweetly.

"I told you one day we'd be together." She smiled back with all the love in her heart. "That you did, my sweetness." Before they happily shared a wonderful kiss, overjoyed their dreams were at last a reality.
