"Sorry baby, but I already let you have one, and I don't want you to hyper," Logan repeated himself. Patton stood in front of where Logan sat on the couch. All the other sides were doing one thing or another, so it was just Logan and Patton, who was in the headspace of a toddler at the moment.
Patton pouted, "Daddy, please?"
Patton wore a light blue oversized sweater, with a pair of black leggings. The sweater reached part way down his thighs and covered his butt. "I said no, baby boy," Logan gave him a stern look, and Patton whimpered a bit.
"Mkay, sorry!" he squeaked, backing away and squeezing his stuffie. Patton's reaction to Logan using a stern voice is part of the reason why Logan was never prepared for him to misbehave. He usually listened, and avoided breaking the rules as much as he could. He liked hearing that he was Daddy's Good Baby Boy, and Logan was glad to supply that praise.
"You're okay, Patton. See!" Logan switched back to his normal voice, speaking softly. Patton came closer.
"don't like scary daddy voice," he mumbled. Logan pulled him onto his lap, kissing his cheek softly.
"It's not supposed to scare you, it's just me being stern with you," Logan assured. Patton whined, burying his face in the crook of Logan's neck.
"Still scary!" Logan soothed him by playing with his hair, rubbing his back. He was just so innocent, and he was absolutely terrified of being put in timeout. He was also scared of Logan's "scary daddy voice", which was really just his strict caregiver tone. Logan never had to be strict with him though, yet alone put him in timeout for anything.
"As long as you keep being a good baby, I'm sure we wont have to worry about that, right?"
Patton nodded, lifting his head from the crook of his neck.

Patton talked to Logan about anything and everything, giggling and cuddling his caregiver until Logan left to use the bathroom. Logan had asked him to stay put, and to not go anywhere.
But, when Patton was left on his own, he thought of the chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen. How he could, fairly easily, get up, go in the kitchen, and get one. If he was fast enough, he could eat it and Logan would never know. He didn't know if he'd be able to get away with it, but he knew he did want another cookie. He wouldn't get hyper! His daddy had nothing to worry about.
He moved quickly, glad that the cookies were left on the table, where he could easily get them. He grabbed one, and exited the kitchen just in tim- Too late.
Logan stood, there, his arms crossed, giving Patton a stern look. Patton hadn't even heard the toilet flush, or the bathroom door open. "What are you doing?" Patton hadn't even taken a bite out of the cookie, so all the evidence was right in his hand.
"I- um..." Patton was already scared. Why did he do this? This was a bad idea, and now he was in trouble.
Logan came closer to him, taking to cookie from his hand and putting it back on the plate with the others. "I said no more, and you tried to get one anyways. That's ignoring me," Logan said, speaking sternly now. Patton whimpered at that voice, looking down. "I told you to stay put, and you didn't listen to that either."
Patton was gonna cry. He was scared, he didn't want timeout, and he wanted Logan to give him a hug. "I know you wanted another cookie, but you should've listened. Go sit on the couch," Patton looked up at him, closing in on himself and backing away.
"No timeout!" he shook his head, whimpering.
"Just a few minutes. No toys, no talking, and then we'll speak about this," Logan instructed, pointing towards the couch. Patton blinked back tears, trying not to cry before he was even in timeout. He sat down, hugging himself. Logan held out his stuffed bunny to him. Patton looked up, tilting his head.
"Stuffed animals are a comfort item, different than other toys," Logan explained. Patton took the bunny, holding it in his arms tightly. Logan sat on the other end of the couch, on his phone. He looked up every few seconds, making sure Patton was okay. Patton eventually couldn't hold back the guilty tears anymore, crying and sniffling. The timeout barely went on for five minutes before Logan approached Patton slowly.
"Patton?" Logan sat next to him, Patton looking up. He wiped at him eyes and looked back down, focusing on his feet, swinging them a bit. "Come here," he opened his arms, ready to hug him. Patton shook his head with a hum.
"Why don't you want a hug, baby?" Logan questioned.
"M' bad baby, n' bad babies don't get cuddles," Patton was trying to punish himself. He was making it out to be bigger then it was. He felt bad.
"No! You're not a "bad baby", I promise! This is the first time you didn't listen to me in like, forever. I'm not upset with you," Logan wrapped his arms around him. Patton shifted to hug him back, melting into his touch. He was still crying.
"You not mad? m' not being good," Patton looked up at him, wiping at his eyes.
"I'm not mad. You obviously understand what you did wrong, and maybe it wasn't a good idea to immediately put you in timeout...I think all that punishment does is upset you. When you're big, we can talk about other ways to deal with you misbehaving. But for now, let's call it a clean slate, hmm?" Logan wiped a tear off of his cheek.
"I-i good baby 'gain?" Patton asked.
"Of course, Little One," Logan knew Patton needed a lot of reassurance. He felt bad for putting him in timeout without second thought. He also knew that Patton probably wasn't convinced that Logan wasn't upset with him. He thought for a moment.
"How about something to make you feel better? A reward!" Logan offered.
"But I was bad!" Patton seemed confused. His constant tears seemed to be slowing, but he was still upset.
"Maybe, for a second there. But you already served the timeout, so you don't need to keep beating yourself up," Logan stood up, helping Patton up from his spot on the couch.
Patton seemed confused still, but also curious and distracted from before. They entered the kitchen. "Now, I need you to promise me that you won't be to hyper..."
"I get cookie!" Patton was happier now, taking the cookie Logan handed him. Logan knew that this was what this was all about, and he felt like Patton deserved it. After the immediate guilt, crying, and bad self talk, the least he could do was give the boy what he originally wanted.
He took a small bite out of it. "Thank you, daddy! m' sorry I didn't listen earlier..." he nibbled on the cookie. His face was a little puffy, and you could tell he had cried, but the tears themselves had stopped.
"It's okay, sweetheart. Clean slate, remember?" Logan ruffled his hair. Patton hummed a little.
"Feel better. Felt bad before, but...um, feel better!" Patton told him, shifting his weight between his feet. Logan knew that this meant he wasn't anxious, and the guilt was starting to lift.
"That's good, baby. I love you, and I don't want you to feel bad."
"Love you too, Daddy!" Patton giggled a bit, slowly returning back to his happy self.
Logan only had one question to ask himself,
All this over a second cookie?
