He sat on the side of his bed and put his face into his hands. He started crying, and unhealthy thoughts came to mind. Nobody he loved cared about him. Nobody was there. He was alone.. All the time. He started to think about what it would be like if he was gone. Would anyone at school care? Surely they would feel horrible for never being on his side. Would Jake feel guilty? Or would he just move on to someone else? Would it affect his mom? Would she take time off with his brother, and give him time and attention so that he wouldn't turn our the same way? Would his brother care? They never really were close. If he just ended it all.. Would anyone even notice? There were knives in the kitchen. He could slit his wrists, or do something else. He just kept thinking and thinking. "If I was gone, would anyone care? I hate being alone all the time.." He said. After a short moment of silence a voice behind him said, "I know, right? Nobody really ever pays attention."
Gabriel just sat there for a second, confused if he made that voice up or not. He lifted his head from his hands and looked over to see a guy in his room! They were sitting back to back, and he turned his head, as well. It was a vampire! They both jumped up and went onto opposite sides of the room.
"Where am I?!" The vampire said loudly, looking around the room. Gabriel thought for a moment, staring at him. The vampire calmed down and looked at Gabriel. They looked at each other for a moment, before a sudden face of realization came across him. "You look like the human I was paired up with on the pamplet!" He said. Gabriel thought for a moment. "Wait.. So you're... Nathaniel?" Nathaniel nodded. "And you're Gabriel." He said, understanding. "Then what are you doing here? I'm not in danger, isn't that the only reason you first meet?" Gabriel said, taking a few steps closer to his bed. Nathaniel thought for a moment. "I don't exactly know... Are you in life threatening danger? Maybe you just don't know what it is yet?" He said confusingly, looking around Gabriel's room.
Gabriel thought of all the things he said. How if he could end it all right there nobody would care. Is that what it is? Was that the danger? Suicide is life threatening. So Nathaniel must be here to stop him from doing that... Right..? "I'm not in any danger.. That I know of, that is." Gabriel lied. He sat on his bed, but he was still crying. Nathaniel walked around the bed and sat next to him.
"Are you alright? You look pretty beaten up." He said, looking at the cuts and bruises on Gabriel's face. Gabriel went to wipe his tears away from his eyes to see properly again, but the second he touched his face he winced in pain and removed his hand. "What happened?" Nathaniel asked, putting his feet on the bed and facing Gabriel. Gabriel was silent for a while and kept crying, but harder. He tried to explain what happened but it just came out as gibberish.
Nathaniel stood up and grabbed Gabriel's hand, making him stand up as well. He pulled him to the other side of the room and faced him. "Hold on, my mom always said there's a way that if a human gets hurt, but it isn't fatal, you could heal it. Let me try." He said, grabbing both of Gabriel's hands and Golding them in his. He closed his eyes, and Gabriel did the same.
After a few minutes, Gabriel felt Nathaniel hand wipe the tears off of his cheek. It didn't hurt to touch it anymore. He opened his eyes, and Nathaniel said "It worked! Now can you tell me what happened?" With a smile. He led him back to the bed and they both sat down. Gabriel was still crying, but he slowly started to explain about the notebook, and how Jake was a long time bully that just wouldn't give him a break. He talked for a while, and Nathaniel just sat there and listened. Gabriel had never had someone sit there and listen to him for so long, and so fixated on him.
After he was done explaining the situation, Nathaniel was quiet for a while. He scooted to the head of the bed, next to Gabriel. "I get it. Sort of. I'm always alone, too. With my family always protecting their humans they are never really there. But if I'm here I can protect you from any danger. That is what I'm supposed to do, right? I won't let him touch you. And maybe we can both finally have someone!" He said. He wiped away Gabriel's tears once again and told him to calm down.
That night, when his mother got home, she put Gabriel's brother to bed once again. She walked towards Gabriel's room but noticed it wasn't locked. She thought it was strange, but didn't think much of it. She opened her sons bedroom door, but she saw another kid in his bed with him, she yelped, and stared in disbelief for a second. Her son didn't wake up, because he was always a deep sleeper. She slowly walked towards her sons bed, and saw that the boy was a vampire.
She shook her son awake lightly. Gabriel rubbed his eyes. "What is it...?" He said groggly. "Did your vampire come?" His mom asked, pointing to Nathaniel. Gabriel nodded, and his mom got even more uneasy. "Doesn't your vampire only come when your in life threatening danger? Are you okay? What happened?" She said. She was talking so fast that Gabriel barely understood her. "Nothing happened, I was just sitting on my bed and be appeared behind me.." Gabriel said. His mom seemed to calm down a bit, and said, "I have half a day of work tomorrow. I could get to know your friend while Damian is at daycare?" She said, putting her hand on Gabriel's for head. She noticed all of his wounds were healed. Gabriel groaned some sort of yes and went back to sleep. His mother got up and put a blanket over both of the boys, then left the room to return to her own.
The next morning, Nathaniel awoke before Gabriel. He sighed and rubbed his eyes, then sat up. The room was dimly lit from light pouring in through the window, and he looked around slowly. He saw a notebook, long and thick, with many pages, sitting on the table on the other side of the room. He looked over and saw Gabriel, still laying on the bed sleeping. He was sprawled out, taking up most of the bed. Nathaniel chuckled to himself. "He sleeps like a dork.." He thought, getting up out of the bed. He walked over to where Gabriel's notebook was, and picked it up. He started going through it, and realized how obsessed Gabriel was with the vampire species. After a few pages he decided he didn't want to mess with Gabriel's privacy and he put the book down. He took his sweater off and set it on the back of the chair then left the room.
When Gabriel woke up, be looked around and yawned. He didn't see the vampire anywhere, and assumed it had all been a dream. He got up and went into the bathroom to brush his teeth. After doing that, he found a sweater in his room that he didn't remember buying. He put it on anyways, as it was the only one that was clean. He pulled down the sleeves and put the hood up, then left his room and walked to the kitchen. He found Nathaniel and his mother sitting at the table talking. His mother noticed Gabriel in the hallway and gestured for him to coke sit at the table with them. He sat down next to Nathaniel.
His mother looked between them a few times and said, "Wow, you're almost as handsome as my son!" And patted Gabriel's head. Gabriel looked embarrassed, and Nathaniel and Gabriel's mom chuckled. "So, nothing happened yesterday? No danger?" She asked both of them. Nathaniel shook his head and said, "No, I just fixed his face and we talked for a while." Gabriel's mother smiled. "Well, thank you for fixing his face, Nathaniel." His mother said. "Just call me Nathan, miss." He said. Gabriel's mother nodded at him. "Alright, I'm going to make some breakfast, you guys can go to your room or something. Is eggs okay, Gabe?" She said, getting up from the table. "Uhm, yeah.." Gabriel said, getting up from the table and pushing his chair in. His mother moved to the fridge to start getting ingredients while Gabriel and Nathan went into Gabriel's room.
"If you need clothes you can wear some if mine, but they might be a bit small." Gabriel said, closing his door. "I see you've already wore some of mine." Nathan said, pulling the hood of the sweater off of Gabriel's head. "Oh! Sorry, I thought it was mine.." Gabriel said, and started to take it off. "It's okay, you can keep it. Also, can I call you Gabe like your mom? Or is that a mom and son thing?" Nathan said, walking towards Gabriel's closet. "Oh, yeah it's more of a mom and son thing.." He said, fixing the sweater. Nathan pulled out a shirt and jeans from the closet and said, "Ah, I see. I'll just call you Gabby then! Also are these clothes okay to wear?" Gabriel never had anyone call him that before, so he was kind of shocked. He nodded and Nathan grabbed the clothes and walked into the bathroom to get dressed.
Gabriel lifted his hands, and now he understood why it was so huge on him. He pulled the sleeves up a little more, but they fell down again. He walked over to his notebook and sat down, writing a few things about something he had pieces together. He flipped pages to the end and wrote some things about Nathan. He didn't want to forget him, because now he had his only friend. Making him his best friend, right? Soon after Nathan come out of the bathroom. Gabriel looked over and got up. The clothes fit perfectly on him, so they both sat on the bed to start talking like they did before last night, starting off where they fell asleep yesterday. They were asking each other questions.
