I hesitate to continue. Clearly, he's getting tired of this conversation and I risk spoiling my chances if I carry on. He's the Bartholy brother that I feel the closest to. Nicolae is older and more conventional. And Drogo, forget it!

> You know, I can see there's a whole bunch of weird things going on...

He gets up, putting an end to our conversation.

Peter > I'll settle the bill, I'll be back in a minute.

And saying that there's no mystery. He's taking me for a fool... When he gets back we make our way to the town center. I try to broach the subject again.

> You didn't answer.

Peter > About what?

He's very good at playing dumb. I could almost believe him.

> About all these mysteries around you all.

Peter > I really don't see...

I stop and look at him, furious.

> Of course, you do! I'm not just talking about your brother, who's a real bastard, but about the strange staircase in one of the corridors of the house! And the so-called quarrel with Sarah? Not forgetting your sister!

Peter > What about my sister?

I'm taking a risk by attacking the lovely little sister... But things can't go on like this! This time, I know I've got his attention. He can't hide the worry in his voice.

> Haven't you noticed that she plays some rather weird games... hum...

Of course, a kid of that age who enjoys staging stories of sadistic murders is quite normal.

> And Mia Cooper?

From the look on his face, I know I've hit the target. He doesn't like me bringing up the subject.

Peter > Who's that?

If he wants to play it that way, fine. This time, I'm fed up. I just walk off leaving him there.

Peter > Lina!

I completely ignore him and walk off towards the car park. When he catches up, I greet him with stony silence.

Peter > Listen, I don't know what you'd like to hear, but I assure you it's better that you don't know certain things.

So, I'm not crazy! There is something! I walk briskly towards him, clearly showing my annoyance on my face.

> True friends don't have secrets!

He raises an ironic eyebrow.

Peter > We'll talk about it again in a few months?... When this great friendship of ours is well established!

Great... I missed again! Still, he is stubborn. If that's how it is, I'll try to get some info from Sarah. But first I have to get rid of Peter. He can't tag along with me if I want to learn more!

> Sarah called me earlier on and finally she wants me to go to her house.

I look straight ahead of me, for fear of turning bright red. Lying was never my strong point. My parents often laughed at me for that. I can see that he doesn't like the idea of me going to Sarah's. But quite honestly, I don't care!

Peter > Very well, our day together ends here, but let me take you back home first.

> Okay.
