The presentation had been done. It could be considered success if you didn't count when Peter suddenly froze in front of the audiences when he supposed to do presentation, or the table suddenly broke apart when we tested it to hold the laptop. I didn't care as long it had been submitted and presented, I would considered it as done. It didn't affect the valuation of my final score in my major though.
The closing of orientation period was held on this Friday. It was officially held by council and the faculty. There were band performances by senior year and some first-year students. We sang a long and jumped around listening to the music. At least there was one time when we did not have to think about assignments. And the last event was Love Messaging. Parker, the president council, had explained that, usually, during orientation program there was love in the air struck to some students.
There was a stab in my chest when I heard that. Hannah, Naomi, and Lana glanced and giggled at me. I only smiled shyly at them.
"For you that want to express your love to your loved one. You can write down your message on the paper and gave it to the Heidy" he pointed to a senior who sat beside the stage " and we will read the message for you. The sender can be anonymous. So please, feel free to express your love".
Everybody whistled and cooed after he finished.
"Nat.. you should do that," Hannah said
"No. I will embarrass myself".
"Its a way to lure him to express his real feeling towards you. It's like that moment in chick lit movies," Lana tried to persuade me.
"No,"
"I will write it for you," Naomi said. They looked at me and nodded with excitement.
I huffed. " Ok. But please don't write my name,"
They nodded, then Naomi jogged to the table where Heidy sat.
One by one the love message was read. People cooed and whistled. The person who were intended by the message showed different reaction; blushing, laughing, giggling, howling and other kind of reaction. My heart was pounding rapidly waiting for my message to be read.
"For: Jackson Smith
From: someone
Message: please aware that someone care a lot about you"
I dropped my head when I heard the message. It is wrong. I shouldn't have agreed with it. I looked at Jackson and his friends. Jackson was slightly embarrased, and his friends was teasing him. Unfortunately, he caught me looking at him. I quickly looked away from him. My chest started to suffocate. I wanted to cry. At that moment I realised that He doesn't have the same feeling as me.
"I.. i better go home now," I stuttered saying to my friends.
"Why Nat? " Lana asked, confused by my sudden change of attitude.
"No. I was just.." I trailled off. "I'm tired that's all". I smiled at them to reassure them. They looked worry when they saw my fake smile.
I shouldn't have listened to them. I'm fooling myself. I have already known the truth before today. He doesn't have the same feeling toward me.
I turned around, waved at my friends, and walked to the exit.
"Natalie" I heard his voice but I kept walking and quickened my pace.
"Natalie," He grabbed my wrist. I spun to see him and quickly put a smile on my face, covering my true feeling that I felt.
"Hi Jackson," I used my regular tone, hopping he wouldn't notice any difference on it.
