When I was seven years old I went to my first ever voice lesson. My parents put me in because I used to sing around the house all the time.
At first it was just a little side hobby but as I got older I started to focus on it more and more.
When I was 14 I uploaded my first cover on YouTube.
When I was 16 I started writing my own music and started releasing it on my channel at 17.
By the time I was 18, I was signed to Atlantic records and I released my first ep. I started doing shows in small venues in big cities.
I travelled around quite a bit until I finally moved in with my aunt in LA so I can really focus on my music.
I am currently 19 years old and I'm sitting outside of a meeting room. This meeting is going to lay out all the plans for this year.
My manager, Kate pops her head out of the room.
"Come on in Ellie, you're a little early"
I walk inside and I look at the whiteboard. At the very top, in big bold letters it says my name, Ellie Aito. Underneath that, is a calendar of the year. I can see dates and things scribbled In but I couldn't force myself to look at them.
This stressed me out a lot. When we did this last year I panicked and burst into tears so hopefully that doesn't happen again. I'm not usually the stressed out type but things can get very overwhelming.
A few more people walk into the room when my manager speaks up.
"Alright everyone, let's get started. First I want to say thanks for being here right now, I know it's an early meeting but we will get through this. Now this meeting is going to be discussing all of our plans for Ellie this year."
I look up and I see Kate give me a reassuring smile. She can probably tell I'm nervous.
"So first lets just outline the major things we want to happen every month. So first off, January. We are already a week in but this month is the month where we will make most of our announcements."
Wait what
"I'm sorry Kate, what announcements?" I ask.
"Don't worry Ells, we will get to that. Okay so In February we will be doing a lot of filming for some music videos we have planned. In March we will be releasing a song, we haven't decided which one yet. In April you have a show in New York and LA. In May you will be doing lots of interviews and In June you get a little break although you will be writing and recording the entire time."
Everyone nods along. So far this is all manageable.
"Now this is the exciting part, in July you will be opening for Why Don't We's 2019 Summer tour!!" Kate says excitedly, and doing some jazz hands.
"Wait what" I say, not really sure if I heard correctly.
"Umm summer tour? Why don't we? Exciting?" She says cautiously.
Okay
Okay
Okay
Wait
What
"....umm summer tour?" I say nervously.
"Yeah!! It's a great learning opportunity for you and you will have people your age to hang around!!"
"What's that supposed to mean?" I say a little hurt.
"I mean after everything that happened to you.... well never mind. This is a great opportunity!! You will be on a tour bus and singing and doing interviews and it's only for a couple months. And the guys are super nice" Kate says, really trying to sell it.
"Umm Okay Yeah. Yeah I can do that" I say, warming up to the idea.
"Yes yes! It will be lots of fun and a great stepping stone for you" she says reassuringly.
"Yeah, okay yes, I just have to...umm call my mom and stuff."
"Yeah don't worry Ellie, we will sort everything out"
Okay, this might not be so bad.
"Wait who am I opening for again?"
"It's a band, why don't we"
"Oh okay yeah" I say.
Who the heck is that?
