Riker's POV

I was glad Christmas was over, so we could look forward to other things, like Jamie getting out of the hospital. Before that, we will be spending our anniversary in the hospital. This is going to be our third anniversary. It'll be the first one in the hospital.

"Knock, knock," the doctor said from the outside of the door then entered without a word from neither Jamie or I. The doctor walked over to Jamie's bed and began to speak. "As you know, we checked your white cell count." The doctor continued to speak, but I waited for her to say either he blood count is normal or too low. It was about after five minutes of her talking when we got the answer. "Well, the results came back a day late. You're on the right track of remission."

That was music to my ears, and I know music.

Jamie received her breakfast from the nurse right after that, and I went to meet up with Megan for breakfast. This meet up has become a regular thing.

I walked in and saw her sitting at the table at which I had first met her. I waved to her to let her know I was here. She had looked up from her phone and gave me a slight wave. I went through the line and got a bagel, yogurt, and orange juice. The yogurt was a new thing that I added to my breakfast. I carried it over to the table where Megan sat.

"I started to think you weren't coming," she said as soon as I sat down. She took a bite of her cereal she had gotten.

"I didn't expect the doctor to come in when she did. She gave us good news on Jamie. She's on the right track for remission," I said as I opened the orange juice.

She smiled and took a sip of her coffee. "That's good to hear. Ashton is getting better. It sucked we had an unexpected Christmas in the hospital." We stayed quiet. "Do you think I could meet her?"

I gave her a confused look. "Jamie?"

She nodded. "I mean, we talk about her. Why can't I meet her? I'll let you meet Ashton. I told him about you, and I bet you told Jamie about me. Is she a little bit curious about your breakfast date?" I knew she didn't mean breakfast date like an actual date.

I shrugged as I ate my yogurt. "I'll talk to her if she is up to it. If she doesn't feel like it, I don't want to push something on her. But I'm up to meeting Ashton. When do you think would be a good time?"

"How about tomorrow?"

"How about okay."

So it was official that she could possibly meet Jamie. I got back to Jamie's room. I sat with her while she was still eating. She doesn't eat fast anymore.

"I got an idea," I said. "Well, it's not my idea. It's Megan's." She gave me a look of confusion like I had given Megan. "She wants to meet you. Her husband wants to meet me, and she thought about meeting you."

"Why would she want to meet me or her husband want to meet you?" Jamie asked.

"I don't really know, but I'm up for it. We talk about you guys a lot." She was in the mist of thinking when someone outside of our room began to yell for a doctor. Jamie jumped from her thoughts and sat up quickly. I ran to the door to see what was going on. Jamie's friend's, Sydney, mom was calling for a doctor. Many nurses and doctors ran to the door and began to examine what was going on. Many nurses left slowly, but the room still had a lot of doctors and nurses who were left. I walked near to hear what was going on. I couldn't make out what the mumbles were until Sydney's mom was escorted out by a nurse. Her mom was in tears.

Then, I heard it. "Time of death 10:34 am." It was so surreal for me to watch her mom fall to the floor in tears. It hurt to watch, so I went back to Jamie. She was in tears when I got back. I didn't think she could hear or see what went down from her bed. I sat beside her and comforted her.

"She's in a better place," I cooed. She pulled a way from the hug and gave me another confused look.

"What are you talking about?" she asked.

"Sydney passed away," I stuttered to say.

"Oh," she said an lowered her head but still had tears falling.

"That's not why you were crying?" She held out her hand with strands of her hair on it. I felt so bad and helpless because I couldn't do anything about what was happening to her.

"Sydney passed?" she asked with her crying voice. I didn't want to inform her, but it had been too late. I nodded. She cried on my chest for what seemed like forever. I hated seeing her upset. "Can we--" Her words were lost as she mumbled into my chest.

"Huh?" I asked as I helped her sit up.

"Can we just go ahead and shave my head?" she asked. I couldn't help but look at her tear stained face and her red eyes. I nodded and she fell back into my chest, but she turn her head so her cheek was on my chest. "Tonight."

I sat on the bed with Jamie as she fell asleep and I turned on the TV. Nothing was on except the news, so I decided to watch that.

"An unusual amount of rain is heading in California. It's not a lot to many other states, but it's a lot for us. A couple inches may be falling tonight or tomorrow morning. Be ready to drive to work in the morning with wet roads," someone on the news said.

My work was music, and I loved it. I hadn't written a single song in almost a month it feels like. I didn't know where to begin with a song. It usually came to me at random times, but I guess I had other things on my mind. I really missed touring and writing songs with my siblings, but it just wasn't my reality anymore. It was my past. I had children that I have to take care of and a wife I take care of.

That day drifted slowly. I had borrowed a razor from the hospital that they used to shave heads of patients for surgery. I helped Jamie move to a stool, and she sat in front of the curtains that haven't been opened since we got here.

"Open them," she said. I gave her a questioning look as I was asking if she truly meant it. She nodded. I walked over and opened the curtains. A night sky with a bunch of stars was revealed. Buildings filled out view. "It's not an ocean view, but it'll do." Jamie chuckled, and I laughed.

"Are you for sure that you want to do this?" I asked.

"I got a lovely view, a lovely husband who would do anything to make me happy, and this would make me happy. I can't stand watching my hair fall out. Do it," she said. I watched her close her eyes. It seemed like she held her breath too, but it would've been impossible for her to hold her breath that long.

It took a while because of my many hesitations, but I finally did it, for Jamie.
