Virgil entered the living room and fell onto the couch next to Patton, groaning.

“What’s wrong kiddo? Are your nifty headphones broken again?”

“It’s Roman. I can’t get over my feelings for him.” Virgil blurted out, surprising Patton. He had never told any of the other sides about his crush on Roman.

“Well why’s that got you down so much,” Patton tried to hide his excitement, “a lot of people experience crushes, its not a bad thing to like someone.”

“But I shouldn’t like him. I should know by now that he is never going to feel the same way about me. Our entire relationship centers around him making fun of me. If there’s a prize for rotten judgment, I’ve won it.”

“Well, I don’t think that’s true…” Patton tried his best to reason with the anxious side, “You can’t control your feelings. Maybe you could talk to him?”

“He’s not worth the aggravation. My feelings are ancient history- been there, done that.” Virgil tried to get up and walk away, but Patton stood up as well and grabbed his arm firmly.

“Hey! Who do you think you are kidding. He clearly means a lot to you. In videos, you try to keep it hidden, but kiddo I can see right through you. You can't conceal it, I know how your feeling and ho you’re thinking of.”

No chance Patton. No way.”

“Why deny it.”

“It’s too cliche. I won’t say I’m in love.”

“You’re in love?”

“I- never mind Patton. I’ll be in my room.”

Patton sighed quietly as he watched Virgil leave, wishing he could do more for the anxious side.

Virgil jumped onto his bed, shocked from his conversation with Patton. Should he tall Roman his feelings? He couldn’t. He mentally chastised himself, telling himself that too many things could go wrong.

I thought my heart has learned its lesson. It feels so good when you start out. My head is screaming-

“Get a grip boy. Unless you’re dying to cry your heart out.” He chuckled bitterly. How did this even happen? The two sides had always had a rocky relationship, but he had suddenly started wanting to be friends, then more than friends. But he knew it wasn’t meant to be. The two sides clashed, and their jobs were even opposites.

Virgil’s conversation with himself was interrupted by a soft knock at his door, and then Patton peeking his head into his room.

“Kiddo, you can't deny it. Who you are is how you're feeling. I saw you hit the ceiling when you were talking about him.”

“I wouldn’t say I hit the ceiling…”

“Face it like a grown-up, when you gonna own up that you got it bad.”

“Patton there’s no chance ill say it.”

“Give up, check the grin you're in love,” Patton smiled, “Why can't you see it. You really love him.” Virgil shook his head.

“This scene won't play. I won't say I'm in love.”

“Just admit you're in love.”

“You're way off base, I won't say it.”

“Virgil please,” Patton was grasping for anything to get Virgil to realize how strong his feelings actually were, “You are suffering because you won’t admit it to yourself.”

“Get off my case, pat. I won't say it.”

“Boy don't be proud, it's okay you're in love.” As Patton finished his sentence, Roman popped his head into the room.

“Did you say that our emo nightmare over here is in love? Amazing! Who is it?”

“Oh,” Patton glanced frantically between Virgil and Roman, “its just-”

“It’s no one princey,” Virgil replied, noticing the creative sides pout, “I don’t really like them anyway.”

"Fine. But you better come to me if anyone makes you feel unwanted. I will slay them for you. Like the dragon witch!”

“Thanks sir-sing-along.”

At least out loud I won't say I'm in love

This is my first attempt at using a song for a story, I hope it was ok
