As Zoe drove to the hospital the next day, she couldn't keep her excitement in control. Paul has woken up from his coma after a month, and she can't wait to catch up on their date nights and everything else in between. A few minutes later, Zoe arrived at the hospital. She went right to Paul's room, only to be greeted by the concerned faces of the same doctor and nurse she saw the last few times.

"What's going on here?" Asked Zoe. "Your boyfriend has amnesia." Said the nurse. "He might not remember who you are, but he knows he has a girlfriend." Said the doctor. "Oh dear! What should I do?!" Zoe asked worriedly. "It may take a while for him to regain his memory, so don't pressure him." The nurse said. "If you reminisce on pictures of the two of you, he may remember at some point." The doctor said. "I'll try that." Said Zoe.

The nurse approached Paul's bed and he looks up. "You're free to go now, Mr. McCartney." Said the nurse. "Thank you." Said Paul. He was out of his hospital gown and back in his regular clothing. Zoe takes his hand as they walked to her car. The whole ride home was uncomfortably quiet. Zoe tried talking to Paul, but he didn't say anything.

Eventually, the two arrived home. Once inside the house, Zoe held her arms out. "Welcome home, Paul!" She said with a smile. "Thank you." Paul said. "Aren't you excited to be home?" Zoe asked. "Yeah." Said Paul. "Come here and give me a hug!" Said Zoe as she held her arms out for him. "Um, who are you?" Paul asked. "Come on, Paul! I'm your girlfriend, remember?" Zoe said. "My girlfriend is Zoe Henderson. She lives with me. Where's my Zoe?" Asked Paul. "I'm right here! It's me, Zoe!" Said Zoe. "You can't be Zoe! I'm going out to look for her, and I'm not coming home until I do!" Paul said.

Zoe grabs Paul by his arm. "No! You can't be serious! I'm Zoe! Paul, don't leave!" She pleaded. Paul ignored her pleas and left the house. Zoe calls after him. "Paul, stop!! Come back here, please!!! PAUL!!!!!!" She yelled. It was hopeless. Zoe suddenly remembered how the doctor and the nurse said how he has amnesia. He knows he has a girlfriend, but he doesn't recognize Zoe. She falls to her knees and starts to cry. "He doesn't remember me!" She said through her tears.

For the remainder of the day, Zoe stared at the ceiling in her room while listening to the song Yesterday.

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be.
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go?
I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong.
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go?
I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong.
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Tears started rolling down Zoe's cheeks as she listened to Paul's voice throughout the song. She couldn't believe her own boyfriend didn't recognize her. At least he knows he has a girlfriend, but he doesn't know Zoe. She turns off her record player and sits at the piano, fiddling with the keys and singing a song expressing her deep pain and sadness of her amnesiac boyfriend.

I bruise you
You bruise me
We both bruise so easily
Too easily
To let it show
I love you
And that's all I know

All my plans
Keep falling through
All my plans they
Depend on you
Depend on you
To help them grow
I love you
And that's all I know

When the singer's gone
Let the song go on
It's a fine line between
The darkness and the dawn
They say in the darkest night
There's a light beyond

And the ending always
Comes at last
Endings always
Come too fast
They come too fast and they
Pass too slow

I love you
And that's all
It's really all I know
It's all I know

It's all I know

Zoe starts to cry some more. She hoped that somehow Paul would regain his memory and know who she is. She then gets up from the piano, picks up her guitar, and sings the same song she listened to, but with a few different words.

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half the girl I used to be.

Shortly thereafter, Paul arrives home. He sits onto the couch and buries his face into his hands. "Paul! Thank goodness!" Zoe said. She sits next to Paul and wraps her arms around him, hugging her boyfriend. Unfortunately, he doesn't hug her back. "A hug is just what I need right now. I still can't find my beautiful Zoe!" He said. "If I told you once, I told you a thousand times, I'm Zoe!" Said Zoe. "If you're Zoe, and my girlfriend's name is also Zoe, how will I know which is my girlfriend?" Asked Paul.

Zoe lets out a heavy sigh. She knew things were starting to get more complicated by the minute.

Here are the songs Zoe sang earlier...

All I Know by Five For Fighting:

Yesterday (Lea Michele's version from Glee):

I thought both of these songs were fitting for how Zoe is feeling about Paul having amnesia. Anyway, will Paul regain his memory? Keep reading to find out what happens next. ~ Amanda
