Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in so long. I would say I have been busy, but then I would be lying. The truth is that I've been having a bit of writers block and I just didnt feel very motivated to write. But anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter! Please leave a comment if you want to give me advice or criticism. I would also love to hear your ideas for the story. Thank you! God bless you all!
I spot Ethan chatting with a few guys from the team by the bleachers, and I could a pit begging to form in my stomach. Ethan hadn't realized that I was there until we got closer. He blinked a few times, looking at me as in disbelief.
I quickly grab Emily's arm, who was only walking a few steps ahead of me, "W-we don't have to go say hello. We can just go back to your cousin. I'm sure that Ethan is busy talking to his team right now. He wouldn't want to talk to me."
Emily raises a brow, turning around to see me, "Why not? You're his sister, I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
I didn't meet Emily's eyes, "He's just busy right now. We don't have to."
"I'm sure he would like to see you. Why don't we just go see him-"
"He doesn't want to see me. He hates me," I snap at her. Emily, seeming a bit taken aback, by my sudden irritation looks away for a moment and then back at me.
"Are you sure he really hates you?" she asks this as if it wasn't obvious that he hates my guts. She doesn't know what I did. She doesn't know why he comes home late whilst highly intoxicated. She doesn't know anything about me. She's a stranger, I don't have to tell her anything.
"He just does, alright?"
Emily's face falls into a look of concern, "You don't really think that do you? I'm sure it's nothing. Even though I don't have a sibling, Noah and I get into fights all the time, but I have never hated him. What did he do?"
"He didn't do anything," I say, and that's all I say. Emily doesn't pry though, and I sigh of relief. I was too close to have to tell her my secret, but she would think I was a freak if she knew, and I didn't ever want that. I felt like a freak already, I didn't someone else telling me I was.
"Alright. We don't have to-"
"Hey Mags! Is that you?" I hear a familiar voice say in Ethan's direction, but it wasn't Ethan. I lift my head up to see Alex walking over to us, away from Ethan's group. He had a wide smile across as he swiftly glided closer to Emily and me. My friend looks at me and then back at Alex, seeming confused.
Alex reaches us and gives Emily a friendly smile before turning to me, "I didn't know you were going to the game today. I could've driven you if you needed someone to drive you."
I force a smile, "That's alright. Emily drove me here, actually. She's Noah's cousin."
Emily holds out a hand and gives a smile, showing off her perfect white teeth, "Nice to meet you. I'm Emily."
Alex takes her hand and shakes it, "Nice to meet you," he tells her before turning back to me, "I thought you didn't know Noah. How do you know his cousin?" he asks me.
I smile nervously, "I actually met her at the mall about two weeks ago. Noah introduced me to her so..." I trail off, not sure what else to say.
Emily steps forward, "Actually, Maggie and I met at the hospital. I was getting a checkup and she was in a wheelchair."
Alex raises a brow, "What did you do to get in a wheelchair?"
I feel a lump form in my throat when he says this. Would they freak out if I tell them the truth? Would they ignore me like Ethan does? What if Emily or Alex tell everyone else? Should I just lie to them?
