I stood behind the counter of the small convenience store, yawning as I watched the time on the clock. It was only a bit past ten, which meant I still had two more hours of boredom. Earlier, I had came in with the most positive attitude I could muster, I even smiled (it was seven in the morning, no one smiles that early), which was a big deal. I let out another sigh as another customer entered the small store.
As I chewed on a piece of gum, I flipped through the same magazine for the third time today. I would have bee on my phone if it was up to me, but I had forgotten to charge it the night before.
"Excuse me."
My thoughts were brought back from the small little world that only contained my problems and me. I looked up to meet the pair of brown eyes of an impatient man, who looked at me with an annoyed expression. I recognized him immediately as the guy that Erin had puked on, but he seemed to not recognize me at all (it was quite reasonable, seeing that I had not been presentable that night).
I didn't look back at the guy, whose name I had already forgotten, until I was done scanning his items: two water bottles."That'll be two-fourteen," I told him, placing them on the counter. His face turned to one of confusion, his eyes meeting mine.
Pointing at me, he asked, "You look familiar, do I know you?" He took the water bottles from the counter as he maintained the confused look on his face, as he tried to remember where he knew me
from."I'm the friend of the girl that puked on you the other night," I told him, trying to hide my smirk. I watched as his expression changed. He cringed as if thinking back to that night.
"Disgusting. Your friend owes me a new pair of shoes," he finally spoke. The five dollar bill that he held in hand was then given to me.
"Right..." I said as I gave him back the change, expecting him to leave, but he didn't. He stood there, placing the change in his pocket, maintaining his eyes on me. He towered over me as we continued our little staring contest.
"Calum, babe, what's taking you so long?" A tall girl walked into the store, dark, long hair flowing as she walked towards us. She immediately hugged onto Calum's arm, focusing her attention on me. She smiled at me, giving off the impression of being an overly friendly person--I didn't really like friendly people, they creeped me out, but then again, so did everyone else.
"Isabella, this is the chick that I told you about, from the club," Calum told his--apparent--girlfriend.
"The one that threw up on your shoes?"
"No, the other one." I just stood there, seeing as the little couple exchanged words between each other. Isabella's mouth formed into an 'o' shape. "--but she's pretty," I heard Isabella say, which caused me to roll my eyes. Of course they would be whispering about me while I was right in front of them.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but I've got other customers to attend," I spoke, causing them both to look around the store. There were not other customers in sight, so they continued to whisper amongst themselves. Picking at her chipping, black nail polish, she waited for them to finish gossiping like school girls.
"But you said--."
"So, um, what's your name?" Calum finally spoke out loud, capturing my attention.
"It's Raven," I hesitated as I answered, taking a quick glance at the clock.
"Okay, Raven. Here's my number, call me when your friend decides to pay me for the shoes," Calum spoke, handing me the paper. I looked at it, scoffing as I shook my head.
