A/N: Hello everybody! This book has been on hiatus for years and I've recently decided to rewrite the whole book. This is the NEW chapter one and is currently the only chapter I've rewritten so far. If you've read this book before, you'll want to reread it because things are going to change! Enjoy!

Hermione Granger's eyes fluttered open at seven thirty, the morning sun beaming in through the window. She stretched underneath her warm covers before sitting up and sighing happily. In a weeks time she would be returning to Hogwarts to finish her schooling. She had received her acceptance letter from Professor McGonagall and had already made a trip to Diagon Alley to purchase a few new school uniforms.

The Granger's were never poor by any means, but after the wizarding war had been won, Hermione (as well as Harry and Ron) had been rewarded what she considered an obscene amount of money for the massive part they played in the defeat of Voldemort. So now she could afford to buy even nicer robes and school uniforms than before. She had never been one to really about having the most expensive thing, but she did sometimes enjoy the finer things in life and since it was her final year at Hogwarts, why not?

Hopping out of bed, Hermione wandered over to her attached bathroom and turned on the shower so the water could warm up. Testing with her hand to make sure the water was nearly hot, just like she liked it, she stepped in and began her morning routine. She hummed to herself as she worked shampoo into her wavy hair, shoulder length hair. It was a new style for her, having shorter hair and she had to remind herself that when she washed her hair and had a brief moment of panic because half her hair was gone. Hermione was enjoying it though, especially since she began using a spell to tame her frizz and make her hair very luscious looking.

Out of the shower, she quickly dressed in a pair of dark blue skinny jeans with a comfortable sweater and a pair of flat zip-up boots. She slid her wand into her shoe then headed downstairs to the kitchen where her mum was preparing breakfast.

"Good morning mum!" Hermione greeted as she stepped into the kitchen, stopping to snatch a piece of bacon before sitting down.

"Good morning my love." Jean Granger smiled, setting a plate of fresh pancakes down on the table along with a platter of sausage and bacon. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes and no. I slept great when I was asleep, but I kept waking up and feeling like something was going to come through my window." Hermione explained, laughing at how silly she sounded.

"I can't imagine anything coming through your window." Richard Granger said, walking into the kitchen to join his family at the breakfast table. "For one, it's too high and for two, if they're magical, I pity the person who messes with you. Brightest witch in the world you are."

"Dad..." Hermione laughed, slightly embarrassed at her father referring to her as the brightest witch in the world.

"It's true." Richard smiled, reaching over to pat her hand. "Have you got everything you need for school?"

Hermione nodded with a fairly large bite of pancake in her mouth.

She covered her mouth as she chewed to say, "Just about, there's a few more things I need to pick up. I thought I might floo over to the burrow and see if Ginny would like to go to Diagon Alley to get the rest of the things we need."

"Sounds good, we'll be going to work shortly." Jean responded, reaching for her cup of tea.

Once Hermione finished her breakfast, she trotted upstairs to retrieve a jacket as well as her small shoulder purse. She was growing more and more excited to return to Hogwarts. All of her friends were returning and she felt deep inside her that she might be made Head Girl, something she always wanted. As she put on a little bit of makeup, she wondered who the Head Boy would be. Harry was returning so it could very well be him, she wouldn't be surprised. It wasn't likely to be Ron, he simply wasn't the type of student that would be considered for Head Boy.
