I remember cringing from the hospital's bright light when I woke up. I had been out for around thirty hours. Apparently, the female administrator from earlier had called the ambulance after finding my body stone cold on the hallway. After a couple of check-ups, the doctor told me I hadn't suffered any major internal or external injuries. I was let out of the hospital and was told to stay at home and rest for the day.

As I laid on my bed that night, I stared at the ceiling in the dark. The crescent moon was ever so bright but there was not a single star in the sky. Placing a hand behind my head I sighed. It'd been a while since I was able to think clearly.

I guess that's that.

I failed.

Pinching my closed eyelids, more negative thoughts poured into my head.

Didn't I make a promise to her?

Tears welled up in my eyes and I placed my forearm on my eyes. Needless to say, that night, I didn't sleep a wink.

The next day, I trudged my worn-out body to school. My face was sunken and my eyebags were as dark as they could be. Despite my appearance, my mind was racing, faster than I ever think it did. My neurons in my brain were firing at an extreme rate. I was looking for the perfect words. The words to say when I see her.

Maybe I could buy her a meal or something.

Yea, that might work.

Oh, wait.

I'm broke.

I'm short $200 cause of the bitch Bella.

Arghh, I'll think of something else.

Checking my cracked watch, I doubled my pace. English Class was about to start.

As I opened the class door, the whole class stared at me.

What's going on?

Taking my seat, I noticed Jim wasn't anywhere to be seen. Matt must have seen my eyes darting around as the chair in front of me swivelled around and he whispered to me

"What Jim did was messed up man."

Raising an eyebrow, I asked

"What did he do?"

Matt turned his right, left and then right again before whispering again
"Look. I'm not supposed to tell you this. It's a student council thing. But since you're like his best friend you should know."

My curiosity was piqued. Leaning in, I asked

"Know what?"

Matt softly said

"Your friend is a thief!"

Oh no.

"He was caught by someone at the nearby playground for stealing a $700 bike man!" Matt explained. I was speechless.
