"We don't usually know the value of something till its gone. And by then, it's too late. People in this line of work don't usually get another chance. It was a miracle hearing her words that day. She gave me a chance that day to do better, to be better. But I also unwittingly made a promise that day. One I couldn't keep."
10 YEARS AGO:
"Are you being serious?" I asked with one hand on my forehead.
"Yep. Our opponent on the first round got themselves kicked out for plagiarism hahaha." Chrissy chuckled.
Does this mean...
"So, we're back in the game baby!" Chrissy cheered gleefully.
A part of me felt so much lighter. Partially due to the guilty conscience being lifted off my shoulders by the universe and I felt relief seeing Chrissy back to normal again.
"Oh," Chrissy said, as she stopped laughing.
Growing quiet, Chrissy turned to the side and softly said
"You probably don't want to join me again for this do you? I'll just withdraw you from it."
"Wait a minute." I exclaimed as I reached out.
Is this the right thing to do?
What if I let her down again?
I gripped my fist and looked down for a moment.
In this infinitesimal split second, I knew what I had to do. The voice in me might not always be good and sometimes it's not always bad, but this time, I knew for certain. The voice was right.
Let's do it.
Looking up, I said
"Chrissy, I want in."
Chrissy looked at me with surprise and asked
"Are you sure?"
"Yea." I winked.
"On my own free will this time."
A small smile emerged on her face and she said
"Thanks."
Chrissy then turned around and in a joking voice, said
"I have high hopes okay, even though I know your standard is low."
I'm glad she's back.
Smirking, I retorted
"Hey, I didn't sleep much that day and I didn't practice my lin..."
Cutting me off, Chrissy grinned
"What happened to 'I'm not gonna make excuses for myself' from before?"
Sighing, I smiled and said
"You can count on me this time."
Chrissy looked at me and asked
"Really?"
Without hesitation, I promised
