Previously: Maka goes after Soul and tries to talk to him after he stormed away jealously from the basketball court. They get into an argument and Maka goes back to the court with the others. Crona asks her if she's alright and she says she's fine, just that she and Soul got into an argument. Crona blames himself that it was his own fault that Soul left. Maka disagrees with him and tells him it wasn't his fault. The others leave giving them privacy. For the rest of the day Maka, Crona, and Ragnarok finish up the food at the court. Then they walk home together. On the walk home Crona stops and looks down sadly. Maka questions him what's wrong and he tells her he still feels terrible for causing her so much pain. She explains how it makes her feel bad whenever he blames himself and he stops. Maka admits she really is in pain and wants to see Professor Stein. Crona quickly takes her to the infirmary, calls Stein, and guards Maka until he arrives.
When he arrives, he hooks the cords up to Maka and gives her medicine, knocking her out into a deep sleep while he performs a C-Section. While he's performing the C-Section, Maka is having a nightmare about falling into a deep hole full of black blood, dragging her into the madness. In reality Maka really is being affected by madness, but by the time Stein gets the child out and the madness level goes down between sane and insane. There's still black blood within Maka's body driving her mad. Stein tells Crona that if they don't retrieve the black blood from her body she could either lose her mind or worse... Die. Stein says they will need to transfer the blood to another person. At first Crona says he'll do it but Stein disagrees saying if he does it will drive him mad. So Ragnarok says he has an idea. What if Stein could remove him from Crona's blood, and somehow retrieve his old human body back? Stein says it is possible and it could save Maka. That way the black blood within Maka could be transferred to Crona's body. Crona's old blood could be transferred to Ragnarok (since Ragnarok basically is blood), and Maka would still have her normal red and white blood cells.

Maka, and Crona are hooked up to cords calculating madness, heartbeat, and a cord to transfer the blood. Stein gave them sleeping pill medication to knock them out. While Stein began to perform the surgery, Soul came over to the infirmary to watch the newborn.

Stein took the black blood from Crona's body that obtained Ragnarok's DNA and placed it in a machine. The machine would turn his DNA into a breathing human being. The process would take a few hours.
After doing that, Stein removed the black blood from Maka's body and transferred it to Crona's body, leaving Maka's body free of black blood and madness.

Stein walked out into the other room where Soul was holding the baby girl. He was looking at her with Maka's bright green eyes.
"Your eyes are just like your mothers." He was slightly smiling and a tear slid down his face. The baby girl looked up at him clueless.
Stein walked into the room.
"Soul." Stein coughed trying to get his attention.
Soul looked up and wiped the tear away quickly, hoping Stein wouldn't notice.
Stein's glasses flashed and he smiled.
"The surgery was a success. Maka and Crona are healthy and alive."
"That's great. I'm glad to hear that."
He stood up carefully, holding the baby girl, and walking past Stein, into the room where Maka and Crona were.
He looked around the room and spotted the machine where Ragnarok's body was forming. He walked past it and over to the bed Maka was asleep on.
"Hey Stein. Could you give me a hand please? I want to wake them up."
