Ashton's pov

-

Since Luke was hurt and couldn't practice, he told his coach that he had to go home. After that, we walked back to his car, and started driving home. I'm scared sometimes that already moving in together this early in our relationship will ruin it, but I highly doubt that will happen with us.

I had been too busy overthinking in my head that I hadn't realized that Luke had pulled into my driveway.

"Ashton?" I finally snapped out of my thoughts, and looked at Luke. When he turned his head a little, I finally caught sight of my house. Tears instantly came to my eyes, not only because of my mom, but because of Bill as well.

I finally tore my eyes away from the house, and looked down at my lap. "Lu, what are we doing here?"

He grabbed both of my hands that were in my lap, and whispered to me. "Do you trust me?" I looked up at him, and he wiped the tears off of my cheeks. After that, I slowly nodded my head. He smiled at that, and grabbed his backpack, pulling out a notepad and pen. After that, he got out of the car. I saw him walk around to my side, opening the door for me. He grabbed my hand, and slowly led me to my old front door.

I pulled my keychain from my back pocket, and unlocked the door. Last time I had been here, it didn't seem as lonely even with no one in it, and now it just felt dark.

"Did you have a favorite picture of you and your mom?" I nodded, and went a grabbed a frame from the living room. I showed it to him, and he smiled at me, nodding his head. With the frame in my hand, Luke grabbed my other hand and led me to the backdoor, and out to the backyard. We walked into the middle of the yard until Luke abruptly stopped.

"Did your mom garden? Or have a favorite flower? Or tree?" I instantly turned my head to the red roses my mom always loved. "Roses, she loved that rose bush."

We walked over to it, and he knelt down in front of it, making me do the same. Before I could ask what we were doing, he started talking.

"When I was younger, my best friend was my aunt. She would always watch me when my mom was at work, and my dad was at a bar. She got into a bar crash when I was about eight, and she passed away." I heard him sniffle, and saw that he had a few tears running down his face. I leaned over and wiped the tears, Luke smiling at me afterwards.

"But, before she was gone, we had started a garden together. She always loved the sunflowers, and always grew them for bouquets for our house. So, when she passed, my mom and I got our favorite picture of the three of us, and a pen and paper. We sat there and wrote a letter to her about how much we loved and missed her, and everything we didn't say to her before." He cried a little more after he said that. I'm guessing he needed to say more, which was exactly how I felt.

I leaned onto his shoulder, and started rubbing his back. "After we finished, we folded up the note, and buried it under the sunflowers. When we finished that, we picked some sunflowers and made them into a bouquet and set them on the floor. When they were there, we leaned the picture on them. After that, each day, I would go into the backyard, and talk to her. When the sunflowers would get old, I would replace them with new ones, and always plant more. That's why there's so many sunflowers in our backyard, always for her." When he finished, I wiped his eyes again, as well as mine.

"So I was thinking that you could do the same, and we can come back everyday and talk to her. Or you can come just by yourself, either way, you can tell her everything you want to." I hugged him, and kissed him on the cheek.

"Thank you Lu. This means a lot." He give me a kiss, and then handed me the notepad with the pen.

"Do you want me to stay while you write? Or go inside and wait?"

"Please stay."

"Okay. I'm here." He went behind me and put his legs on either side of me. And I laid my back on his chest, and started writing.

I finished writing my long letter about an hour later. Luke had me fold it, put it into an envelope addressed to her, and buried it under the roses. After that, we picked some roses and put them around the frame that was on the floor.

"When and if you need to talk to her, she'll be here. Always." I nodded, and couldn't keep the tears that I had held in, and let them out. He pulled me back onto his chest afterwards, and let me cry on him while kissing my head and whispering sweet nothings to me.

I couldn't stop crying, I was thinking about her too much. "S-she's gone. Lu, she's gone forever."

"I know, I know. And I am so sorry. Just think about the happy memories. She may be gone, but you can keep her spirit alive." That managed to calm me down, because I knew for sure that her spirit was going to stay alive.

"You gonna talk to her? Or do you want to go? If she wants to hear you, she will." I thought about it for a minute, and then say forward for I could talk.

"Mom, if you can hear me and your listening, I miss you. I'm sorry I ran out the last time I saw you, I just really wanted you to stay home." I felt tears brim my eyes again, and the I felt Luke kiss my temple. I calmed down, because Luke had become my safe space.

"Mom, this is Luke. You never met him, but he's my amazing boyfriend. You would've loved him. Exactly who you had always imagined for me." I turned and smiled at Luke, receiving his signature smirk and a kiss. I turned back to my mom, and said goodbye for the day.

"Goodbye mom. I miss and love you."

I stood up and helped Luke up as well. I grabbed his hand, and we walked back through my house to the front door. On the way, I grabbed a picture frame off the wall of my mom and I when I was younger. Luke smiled at the picture and led me out of my house to his car, and drove us to my new home.

We pulled into his driveway, and he handed me a small box. "What's this?"

"Just a little something." When I opened the box, I realized that it was a key to Luke's house. I looked up at him with a questioning look.

"You live here. You need a key."

"This almost seems like a cheesy dream."

"You want me to make it even more cheesy?"

"No, not rea-"

He cut me off, before I could finish, yelling. "IF THIS IS A DREAM THEN I HOPE I NEVER WAKE UP!" After he finished, I burst out laughing, making him laugh as well. Our laughter died down, and we got out, walking up to the door.

"You want to do the honors?" I chuckled in response, and used my new key to open the door.

"So, what do you want to do?"

"I'm gonna finish my paper on my amazing partner, and then work on the presentation, it should be pretty easy. So, I'm gonna be at your desk, and I'll be taking breaks for kisses." I winked at him, and then headed to his room. By the time I had all of my stuff out, I heard Luke crash down on his bed behind me.

I knew that I was going to love living here.
