Spencer POV

It's getting late and Victoria and I are still wandering these woods. I can see the sun going down over the tree tops. I'm starting to get worried. I know how to set up a shelter and start a fire, that's the easy part, I'm worried about the animals coming around in the dark. I hunt down monsters every day but a large bear? Victoria and I walk hand in hand through leaves and branches. I turn to face her "Do you think this is a good spot to set up camp, I mean it is getting dark?" I ask her "Yeah, I guess" she replies sounding distracted "Are you alright?" I ask her concerned "Oh, yeah I'm fine, I just didn't expect us to have to stay the night out here that's all" I give her a large hug. "I will do my best to get us out of here" I whisper into her ear. I pull away from her tight grasp, "Let's go and get some branches for our shelter" I say rubbing her cheek. She nods her head and starts walking. I follow close behind her, I would suggest splitting up but who knows if she will make it back. We start picking up the biggest branches we can find off the forest floor. Both of us with big arm fulls of logs we head back to our designated area. It's clear and there is an open patch perfect for what we need. I set my armful down and so does Victoria. I start putting attaching the log's with long peaces of grass, hopefully it will hold. Victoria walks off to where I can't see her. "Victoria?" I call quietly "Victoria, where are you going?" All I hear is silence. "I have to go to the washroom." I hear her call back from the dark woods. "Just don't go to far" I suggest. She comes back in a matter of minutes and helps me on the shelter. I show her how to tie them together so they will hold. It's starting to get really dark now, I can't even see the sun anymore. I speed up a little and within no time the frame is complete. We grab some large leaves to make a roof. Finally our shelter is complete. "Should we start a fire?" Victoria asks. "No, they might see the smoke" "I hate this, we shouldn't even be out here, I should at home with you on my couch watching a scary movie" Victoria states sitting down crossing her arms. I blush a little, I love this girl. She is so beautiful, even when she pouts. I sit beside her and put my arm over her shoulder and kiss her forehead. "When we get out of here that's the first thing we are going to do" She looks up at me and kisses me. Her kisses are so soft, they feel like a thousand tiny butterflies. Suddenly a chill runs down my spine and goosebumps rise all up my arms. It's going to be a cold night tonight. I climb into the sad bundle of sticks and leaves. It may not look pretty but it does it's job. Victoria curls up right beside me and buries her head in my chest. I wrap my arms around her slender body. She is shivering, shaking like a tiny chihuahua. Neither of us have a jacket or anything to keep us warm. My teeth start chattering together, at this rate we will die of hypothermia by morning. I jump up from my spot in the shelter and collect some loose leaves hoping they will provide heat. They don't do anything, I finally give in and start a fire. I'm not going to let Victoria die after what we have been through. The fire is small, not enough for anyone to see the smoke through the thick tree's. Victoria and I huddle around it warming our hands and everything else. When we are finally warmed up enough we climb back into the shelter and curl up into our little ball. The small amount of heat projects it's self into the shelter. I finally fall asleep to the the sound of Victoria's breathing, so quiet and calm, like a baby sleeping in a crib at night. I wake up and look outside, it's still dark out. By the position of the moon I can tell it's about 3 a.m. I turn to see if Victoria was still asleep but when I turn to face her she's not there. My heart starts beating out of my chest, my pulse starts racing. 'They got her, they got her' I keep telling myself. "Victoria?" I whisper. No answer. 'Maybe she just went to the washroom?' I try and convince myself. I poke my head out and look around. I don't see her. "Victoria!" I call again this time a little bit louder. Still no reply. I hear shuffling far off into the woods. I shoot up and start running. I run faster than I ever have before. I get scratched in the face by many twigs but I don't care, I need to get to her. I don't hear anymore noises, they all stopped. Then I heard slow foot steps behind me, then nothing. I run in that direction. Through the tree's I can make out a figure bent over. As I get closer I notice that's it's Victoria. I run up beside her and pit my hand on her back. She let's a small shriek. "It's okay it's just me" I reassure her. She takes a deep breath. "Are you okay?" I asked panicked "What are going out here?" "I'm not feeling to well" she replies. Her eyes light up and she bends over and continues vomiting. I hold her hair and keep my hand on her back. When she finishes she looks back up at me. "I'm sorry, this is probably pretty gross" she says embarrassed. I shake my head and she drops to the ground holding her stomach. She starts moaning quietly. I carefully lift up her shirt to inspect to wound. It's turned black and completely infected, she doesn't have much time. "How bad is it?" she asks through the moan. I look up at her with worried eyes and she knew exactly what I meant. Still moaning in pain I wrap my arms around her and she puts her head on my shoulder. We completely forget about the cold chill in the air. Before I knew it I was asleep again dreaming about Victoria and I, about our future that may never come, about the life I have always wanted that I may not get. This can't happen to me again, I can't lose anyone else. I wake up before Victoria, her head still on my shoulder. The sun was just beginning to rise, we had so much time today to get out of here, I was determined to do it. I lightly shake Victoria awake. She bates her eyes and outstretches her arms. She lets out a huge yawn. "We got to get going baby" I saw. I have never called someone that before, I didn't know how it would sound but I wanted to give it a try. "Mmm, I like that" she says with a big smile. I stand up and reach out my hand to help her get to her feet. "Are you alright to walk?" "Yeah, I should be fine" she replies. She's very tough, she doesn't want people to think she can't handle herself even when she needs help. I nod my head and we start walking in a straight line, the way we were heading yesterday. We walk for hours. My stomach starts growling from lack of food. We come to a large patch of berries. There arn't many berries here so I give most to Victoria. I assume she needs them more than me since she was puking all night. We sit down and savor our food. I close my eyes and listen. I can hear faint noises in the distance. They sound like cars. Actual cars, with actual people inside. But at the same time in the other direction I can hear breaking twigs and the same men arguing over something dumb. They are really bad at there job. I put my fingers to my lips and point in the direction I heard the cars. It was very faint but I'm almost positive it was cars. We both jump up and run in that direction but the crunching of twigs and leaves gets louder and closer. They must have heard us get up. The crunching started getting faster, and faster. They were much faster than us, and stronger. We are lacking food and water. We didn't have good nights sleep either. We are so close, so close to winning, surviving. We can't get caught now. There voices turn into yelling "They are over there!" "I can hear them!" I hear them say. "Run Victoria!" I scream. She follows right behind me. We are so close.
