I walked into school the next morning, the weight of another sleepless night on my back and in a worse mood then ever. I had put the flowers in a vase with water, deciding they were too beautiful to spare. However every time I looked at them, I cried. I cried myself to sleep, then would wake up after a few minutes. I constantly thought it was a dream, then the flowers would catch my attention and it would happen again. The card haunted me from my bedside table, soft red brighter in the dark against the white top.
You would assume that being told that someone you have such strong feelings for is in love with you is a good thing. But this, this was bad.
I trudged slowly into my classroom for first period and sat myself down next to Victoria. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her turn her head towards me and stare. After a few seconds I started to get aggravated. “What?” I said, turning towards her quickly and yelling. Immediately she snapped her head away and started muttering to herself. I didn’t care enough to ask her what she was saying.
The tension in the air around me could be cut with a knife. Victoria got up and walked out of the room. I rolled my eyes and stared off into space, perfectly aware that everyone in the room knew of my bad mood and was possibly questioning it. Regardless of my lack of attention I still saw Kaila, the other girl obsessed with One Direction, pass by the room and she saw me immediately.
Kaila began flailing her arms rapidly in the doorway and started calling my name, assuming I wasn’t paying attention. Since she didn’t know about my situation, I was forced to put on a smile and act as if everything was ok. That was not going to work very well. I pushed my chair back and walked out of the room with my stuff, meeting her in the hallway then down to her locker. “Oh my god Emma did you see the twit cam last night?” I really should have assumed that is what she would want to talk about. I nodded my head. “Yes but only part of it.” I was trying to keep my tone even and the mental image of it out of my head. “Was it the part with Harry talking to his girlfriend?” My cheeks heated up a little at the mention of girlfriend. “I don’t think it was his girlfriend but yeah, I saw that.” Kaila gave me ‘the hand’ as if to say whatever. “I think it was, the way he talked about her and to her? Come on they could not have been anything less.” I shrugged, trying to seem uninterested about the topic. “Whatever.” I said to back myself up. “Whatever? How can you say that? It literally gave me goose bumps the way he spoke. I hope they get back together. But who do you think it is?” I shrugged again, getting awkward and tense with her new question. “No idea.” “I bet it was the girl that was seen running into his hotel with him on their day off.” My vibe was as obvious as it could get at this point but Kaila was oblivious, maybe it was just me. “Wasn’t their two girls that ran in with him?” I tried to make it seem as if the photograph was of just friends of Harry’s. “Yes but one of them was holding his hand, although no one got a good face shot of them.”
Victoria came up behind Kaila and me with the school social worker. Just perfect, it was not this big of a deal. I scoffed at them when they made themselves noticed and Kaila looked a little confused. “Hi Kaila,” Victoria said to the girl in front of me. “Emma let’s go to Ms. Green’s room. I think you should talk to her.” I got agitated again over her making such a big deal over something that really wasn’t. Obviously she saw the twit cam last night but she was making this out to be something more then it already was. “I really don’t think I need to.” I said to her, not bothering to turn and face her. “Now Emma, Victoria hasn’t told me much but from what she has it seems like you should come into my room, especially after the incident last night.” The blonde lady behind me spoke out, trying to reason with me. “It’s really not that big of a deal!” I said, momentarily forgetting Kaila was there. “It is just boy troubles! He fucked up; I’m not talking to him anymore. That is the end of it! On top of that he’s screwing everyone else over in the process! I’m not worth him disappointing everyone else because it’s a ridiculous reason to be doing what he is!”
