I was only 19 when my village was "attacked" by a monster, a mythical race believed to have been trapped underneath Mount Ebott a few hundred years ago. I remember walking out of my house and watching as a tall man with golden yellow eyes and pale black striped skin arrived. He was wearing the strangest clothing, a black and white sleeved robe with an ancient white delta rune printed on his chest. The most fascinating thing about him was the pair of sharp horns on top his white and black striped hair.

We had both stared at each other, and when I looked in his arms I saw a little kid, probably no older than 15, laying limp. I think I had asked him about the child, and if he needed to heal them, but the rest of the memory was a blur of fire and pitchforks.

When I came to, the village people were gone and the limp child was laying in a bed of golden flowers, the same flowers I had planted two seasons ago with the same child. I had walked closer, and just stared at them. Their lightly pinked cheeks, their green and yellow striped sweater, their girlishly cut brown hair....

Oh Chara....

When I was 20, a mysterious disease had appeared and spread through my village, claiming more than half of our population. I remembered the burning heat rushing through my veins, the stabbing in my chest, as I laid in my sweat drench bed. A doctor entered, took one look at me, and then left.

'Please...' I thoughts as black spots filled my vision, and I knew I was about to die. 'I don't want to die yet!'

The next time I woke up I felt... healthy. Stronger than before. The village folk couldn't believe it, and drove me out of the village in fear I was a spirit or demon in disguise.

That was 170X.

I mindlessly watched the flat screen TV from my upside down position on the black cushioned couch, the tips of my black grey hair barely brushing against the smooth wooden floor. 'I think this is the news channel....' I dully thought, then looked over at the white dog in a similar position I was in.

"Wanna go for a little walk Toby?" I asked, and he rolled over and quickly ran to the door. Taking that as a yes, I stood up and turned off the TV.

Sorry, I should probably introduce myself.

Hello, my name is Max and if you haven't guessed... I'm a vampire. Yes, we do exist, but we aren't as obvious as you think we are. Actually, I found out that the only reason vampires still exist is because we closely resemble humans.

Except our souls are black.

Moving on, vampires have evolutionized to not be allergic to the sun (thank god) but only get mildly irritated skin when we're directly under it more than 6-7 hours at a time. Blood sucking? We only need it once or twice a week, and that's only if you get a small sip or two each week. With a full body of blood, we can last an entire two months without any hunger pains or urges. Sleeping? Some of the older ones are stuck with the old ways of sleeping during the day and staying awake at night, but the newer ones switched it so they could still try to be social and work. Yes, I'm one of the older ones, but I don't sleep during the day because I need to work. Oh yeah, we finally figured out our extreme hunger problem when the monsters returned 2 years ago, we found we have a type of "mating season" every spring, which in reality is just a growing hunger for blood and lust towards anything with a body.

It's not fun.

Some humans know of our existence, even some monsters, but they only know because they are "mated" to a vampire or already related to them. Now that I think about it I should probably check with the police station again and see if they've found my kid....
