An Unexpected Surprise

CHEYENNE'S POINT OF VIEW

"Are you sure you wanna go alone? I can go with you, I really don't mind." Vincent said as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear.

I sighed out before responding.

"Well," I began, "I haven't seen my mom and dad in forever and judging by how things went down between you and my dad last time, I really don't want a repeat of that." I told him.

He looked down at his feet in contemplation.

Vincent wasn't very happy with my plan to go see my parents alone. I wanted to tell them about the pregnancy and my engagement to Vincent, and as much as I wanted Vincent there by my side when I told them, I knew how bad things would get between him and my dad and I didn't want that level of stress, especially when I was trying to carry this baby as healthily as I could.

"I know, but I don't want you to do this alone. I should be there when you tell them," he said with a slightly pressing tone.

"Vincent," I sighed out, "you don't think I want you to be there? I would love to have you there so we can tell my parents together, but I know how you and my dad are gonna be," I confessed.

He smacked his lips. "I won't cause any problems if he doesn't." He told me.

I let out a defeated sigh as I thought about what he was telling me.

This was a big announcement and I really didn't want to tell my parents alone. Plus, if I did go alone, it would give my dad even more ammunition against Vincent. He already didn't like him and I didn't want to add to it.

It was almost as if Vincent could read my thought process, judging by the look on his face.

"It would be better if I went with you, especially if your dad does try to give you shit about this. You'll need me there so I can nip it in the bud if he tries anything." Vincent negotiated.

I let out a sigh as I pondered his words. He was right. I would need "backup" in case my dad started a fight, and Vincent was the best person for the job.

I loved my dad more than anything, but if he couldn't accept my relationship with Vincent, I don't know how I would handle that. Hopefully he'll soften up when he finds out about the baby; he's always wanted a grandchild to spoil.

"Okay," I said, making Vincent's face light up, "you can come with me. I don't want you and my dad to fight, but I don't want to tell them about the baby without you," I admitted.

Vincent smiled at me and gave me a kiss on the forehead. "I'm so excited. I can't wait," he beamed.

"Well, come on. Change out of your sweats and we can head over to their house," I told him, looking down at the clothes he was wearing.

He was still wearing his pajamas; a grey pair of sweatpants and a black shirt. He couldn't see my parents like that. He turned on his heel and headed into the bedroom to put on proper clothes.

Once he was wearing his jeans and jacket, he walked into the living room with a smile on his face.

"Ready?" I asked.

"Ready." He confirmed.

We shared a smile before grabbing our things and heading out the door.

As we drove to my parents' house, we talked more about the baby and what we were going to do once the baby arrived. We only found out a week ago that Vincent was the father of the baby, but the gender was still unknown to us.
