Helen's Birth

Nicholas was floating in his dreams, lost amidst nebulae and distant stars, when Zara's scream tore him from the vastness of space, throwing him into a sea of surprises. The sound pierced the silence of the night like a bolt of lightning, shattering the peace of the room and making him wake up with a start. His heart was pounding in his chest, a frantic drumbeat that echoed in his ears. Disoriented, he got out of bed, his bare feet touching the cold floor, his breath coming in short gasps, the world spinning around him. For a moment, reality and dream mixed together, and he feared that some cosmic danger was imminent. But then, Zara's voice, full of urgency and emotion, dispelled the fog of sleep:

— Nick, the waters have broken... It's time!

A whirlwind of thoughts invaded Nicholas's mind. "What do you mean? It's finally happening?" he thought, without understanding what was happening.... The space adventure of his dreams was turning into a real journey, more exciting and frightening than any interstellar journey.

On impulse, he ran down the hallway. With each step, his adrenaline increased, and the shyness that had previously dominated him gave way to an unshakable determination. Nicholas, the boy who was a shy dreamer, was about to become a father.

He bumped into the door handle, scratching his arm, running over everything in his path. But who said he had time to feel pain?

The urgency of the moment propelled him forward, like a rocket towards the cosmos. He quickly changed his clothes, while Zara, with the serenity of an ever-expanding galaxy, prepared for the big moment. The bag, full of pink clothes and dreams of a future to be woven, waited patiently. And then, together, they boarded the ship that would take them to their destination: the car, a metallic cocoon ready to guide them through the night.

Nicholas sank into the driver's seat, his trembling hands gripping the steering wheel. Zara watched him with a mixture of tenderness and apprehension. Their eyes met, a silent dialogue that revealed the immensity of the moment.

"So, what do I do now?", insecurity was evident in every word.

"Calm down, Nick!", Zara replied with a reassuring smile. "It seems like you're more nervous than I am. Breathe with me, let's go slowly!" And so, amidst the chaos and anticipation, they found a rhythm, a synchrony. Zara's breathing, as measured as the movement of the stars, guided Nicholas, calming the volcano in his chest. It almost seemed as if he, and not Zara, was the one about to give birth.

"Now take me to the hospital," she said, her voice firm and soft as moonlight.

At that moment, Nicholas seemed to wake up from a trance. The confusion dissipated, and determination shone in his eyes. Like an astronaut on a mission, he started the engine and sped off, cutting through the night like a meteor. He dodged cars, honked the horn, and took curves at speeds that defied the laws of physics.

Zara, for a moment, forgot about the pain of the contractions, worried about her husband's crazy driving.

"Nick!" she exclaimed; her voice tinged with apprehension. "I want to get to the hospital alive!"

"Everything is under control!" he replied, with the confidence of someone who has sailed through distant galaxies. "I promise I'll go slower."

And so, between winding curves and sudden brakes, they finally arrived at the maternity ward. Zara breathed a sigh of relief, grateful to have survived the adventure. The door opened, and she was greeted by a sea of unfamiliar faces, nurses and doctors who led her to the delivery room. Nicholas stayed behind, full of anxiety. He was the star boy, not the master of composure. He knew that if he entered that room, he would faint in a matter of seconds.

But the wait was not alone. Lorena, Merko and Sophia appeared like shooting stars, bringing with them warmth and support. Together, they waited, biting their nails, counting the hours, the minutes, the seconds... Until, finally, the doctor emerged from the hallway, a smile on his face.

"Are you the father of the child?" he asked, addressing Nicholas.

The young man nodded, astonished, his heart beating like a supernova.

"Congratulations!" the doctor announced, his voice full of joy. "Your daughter has just been born, weighing seven pounds of pure health!"

A smile burst onto Nicholas' face, lighting up the room like the aurora borealis.

He jumped on his mother, wrapping her in a tight hug.

"Mom, I'm a father!", he exclaimed, his voice choked with emotion. "Imagine how cool that is!"

"Congratulations, my son!" Lorena replied, returning the hug. "I've gained a granddaughter!"

Merko and Sophia approached, smiling, and soon Nicholas found himself wrapped in a group hug. The doctor, with a gentle gesture, invited him in. The young man walked through the door, his heart pounding, with each step a new emotion. A nurse opened the door to the delivery room, and there she was: Helen, a little being of light, nestled next to her mother.

It was the most beautiful child Nicholas had ever seen. Her face was red, full of wrinkles, her eyes closed, and a pink bow adorning her head. The image of his daughter filled his heart with cosmic tenderness. He kissed Zara's forehead, and they both lost themselves in contemplation of that new life, Helen's little hands gripping her father's finger, as if she wanted to connect to that universe that welcomed her. Nicholas dove into that sea of happiness, the memories of the last few months appearing like flashes in his mind. The journey that had brought them from the planet Life, unfolded before his eyes, each step, each obstacle, each moment of joy and apprehension culminating in that magical moment. The birth of Helen, a new chapter in their lives, a new adventure to be written in the stars.
