The monster family hadn't spotted me when they landed in the abandoned power plant I've called home for the past several months.

When I set out on my own, I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for. Companionship...maybe? The longer I was alone, the more desperate I became. There were times I thought of just shutting down and letting the world pass me by. It's why I sought out the power plant. Here I would have access to electricity to power me down, but allow my body to stay in animated suspension.

But seeing them? Watching as they fly to an abandoned castle not far away? I know what I want to do with this life. I just hope they accept me with open arms. Leaving the safety of my home after packing the small duffle bag full of my belongings, I make the trek toward their home. It takes nearly an hour before I'm standing on the front steps of the home, staring up at the large wooden door.

Nerves threatened to overtake me, but I power through and bring my hand up to knock on the door.

Several minutes pass before I knock again.

Just as I'm about to turn around and try at another time, the door opens revealing the boy I saw earlier. He looks about my age, or at least in monster years he is close enough.

"Can I help you?"

"Hi, I'm Marc. I'm wondering if you wanted to be friends."

My question stuns him. As I thought it would. Not many people show up on other's doorsteps asking if they could be friends with you. But being a monster, around other monsters, you kind of give up on formalities and go for what you want. That's my personality at least.

Before the boy can reply, an older woman, who I'm assuming is his mother, stands behind him and looks me over. I see her eyes widen in shock, whether because of the type of monster I am or because I'm just another monster at all is hard to tell.

"Dakota, who is this?"

"Mom, this is Marc. Marc, this is my mother, Erica."

"Well, don't just leave him outside. Invite the boy thing in."

Without further talk, Dakota opens the door and ushers me in. Glancing around the foyer, I can see they have updated the inside quite a bit even though the outside still looks in ruins. It's a clever disguise. Though, I doubt any human would wander this far out into the woods and hillside. The place is decorated in Gothic Victorian, classic for a vampire dwelling. However, modern appliances can be seen throughout the establishment. Televisions, computers, as well as electricity obviously. But I also see torch lamps lining the hallways giving off soft glows.

They mom and son lead me into the living area decorated in a lot of dark colors. Red being the primary, but black is also featured predominantly as well. A fire is burning in the fireplace, but it is slowly dying out, leaving alone a few flames and embers. Taking a seat in one of the high back leather chairs, I wait for the others to situate themselves before diving into why I'm here. However, Dakota beats me to the questioning. He options to remain standing why he interrogates me. I can tell he is the overprotective type and doesn't want to put his mother, and I'm sure his sister, into a compromising situation.
