Chapter 14 | A Gushing Mellowness

"Seriously though, Dean. I never expected to see you here." I inch off my stool by a bit and lean forward. I wasn't really interested in the pie anymore. Right now, I was more curious than hungry. And that's a statement. I almost never turn down food.

"Yeah, diners have been my go-to place." He chuckles to himself as he forks up a piece.

"Really?" I tilt my head, looking up thoughtfully. "I've been scheduling your meals for the past few weeks. You haven't been going to any diners."

"I mean from way back."

"You sound like an old man."

"Yeah, well. It was way before I even stared the company." He waves his hand around animatedly to emphasise.

"Really? So what are you doing here now?"

He slows down his chewing, gazing at the floor. His voice deepens, "Trying to think back on those moments here, I guess."

He rests his fork down and spread his knees toward me. "How 'bout you, Blaze? I knew your voice sounded familiar. When I got a look at that fluffy blonde hair of yours and I was like, 'Ah. It's the fiery little ball of fire.'"

"Yeah? I couldn't go back to sleep."

He nods, protruding his lower lip exaggeratedly, making a funny face. "Definitely been there."

I laugh. I fork up a piece for myself and take a bite. My eyes widen. "This is actually really good!"

"Right?!" He let out an excited giggle.

"Maybe I should try pie more often now. It's really really so so good!" I kick my legs around lightly.

"Yeah. It's too good. It's heavenly, Blaze."

"Mhm!" I munch at the crust, nodding in delight.

"It's a good thing I have another heavenly sight in front of me right now."

I stop chewing and stare at him. He only winks at me and bites his lip.

And so I kick him in the shin.

"OWW!" He doubles over, clenching his leg tightly. His eyes looked like they threatened to pop out of their sockets. "What was that for?!"

"How many girls have fallen for your pick-up lines, hm? Hundreds, probably. I won't be one of them."

"Awe, come on! You're literally the only one I've said this to. And I don't plan on saying it to anybody else."

"Plus," he continues, "you look so cute when you eat. I just can't resist. Ah! You're blushing!" He reaches over to pinch my cheeks but I swat his hand away.

"Stop it or I'll send you to heaven myself. Better yet; hell."

"Sounds good to me. Together, we'd be flaming hot at hell, sweetheart."

"Stop."

"Or should I say...HELL-a hot!"

"Okay, okay!" I giggle aloud, pushing his shoulders back to his seat. "You can stop now."
