Chapter 07 | ListenerThey all stared me down. The look of uncertainty and hesitation in their eyes were clear as day. They obviously had doubts on me as a secretary. Meanwhile, Dean doesn't seem to be oblivious to it. Actually, he looked like he was enjoying the moment.
"What's up, gang?"
Cas facepalms.
One of the executives spoke up. "Dean, sometimes your decision-making gets too reckless and rash."
"And part of it includes constantly hiring secretaries who don't even stay longer than two weeks."
"To cut it short, we need to know for sure if she is a worthy secretary. We are a very busy and important company, after all."
Another pipes up, "Do you just pick 'em up from the streets or what?"
Dean shoots that one guy a glare. I did too, but well, disguised as a smile.
"Fine. You all asked for it." Deans says. He turns to me and he's got a look that I can't look through. "Blaze, what were Luximal's general sales rate last 2017? And enumerate to me this year's basic statistical data from at least 3 businesses under our international conglomerate. Oh, and give us a summary of the online marketing analytics based on our clients' diverse responses."
Okay, wow. This guy asks for a lot. I mean, will he also be this demanding in a relationship in the future? I pity the poor woman who'll be his wife.
I pressed a sigh in and directly tell them with a straight face. "Luximal's general sales rate last 2017 had a growth rate of 15.6 percent. LUX Resorts has a whopping $10 million gain and counting since the holidays had started. Statistics from the STUD Casino Royale department shows that the customers' age group consist of mostly adults ranging from 30 to 40. ACE Lounge had an increase in sales from 10.5 to 17.3 percent. Based on the online marketing analytics, 98.95 percent of our customers are perfectly content with our services." I took a deep breath before asking, "Would you like me to continue?
"Uhh. Okay, well-"
"I love working with people to achieve a common goal and I know my background in business has prepared me for this role. I look forward to becoming a valued contributor to this phenomenal company."
The astonishment written all over their faces got me pleased. Even Cas looked surprised. It was kinda funny to see how his blue eyes stared widely at me.
You can say I learned how to sweet talk from the boss. The guy's got people wrapped around his finger with that.
"O-of course! Welcome to the company!" One chirped and the rest followed, with smiles. With that, we exchanged pleasantries and left.
As we walked away from their table, I glanced over to Dean, who was looking at me proudly, eyes twinkling. "I knew you'd shut them up cooly."
"I did, didn't I? Though, that was a big gamble, Dean. How did you know I would know those info?"
"You told me you were a business consultant. Someone with a job like that wouldn't go looking to talk business with a big company like mine without know its' basics. Plus, I know your memory's damn wicked—I mean, you memorised those cake flavours like the back of your hand."
I scoffed and crossed my arms, "Wow! I didn't know you were actually listening to me earlier, Dean."
"Well, I'm a listener, sweetheart. Words just don't go in on one ear and out in my other. Probably why I'm so good at relationships."
"I highly doubt that."
"You do?"
"I sure do."
"Then we should put it into test, then."
I'm shocked. Surprise takes over my features, but before I knew it, a laugh had escaped from my lips.
It was short...and genuine? It sounded so rare and new even to my own ears. I was finding this guy's humor amusing.
Wait, Oh my god. What am I doing?! I immediately wiped the smile off my face and fixed my posture. I heightened my senses as I would normally do before starting a mission.
He hands me a box and pats my arm lightly. "Anyway, good job today, Blaze. Your first day of work is off to a great start."
I reflexively accepted it and look up at him.
"See ya tomorrow, Blaze."
I stood glued to the ground. As he walks away, the shock slowly registers. Me slipping out of character was so suddenly like that was extremely unprofessional of me. I can't just do that. Keep it together, for God's sake, Ro. You are a secret agent...
Now that he was out of sight, I let out the sigh I've been heaving in the whole day. Taking the lid out from the box, I gasp at what I see inside.
Strawberry shortcake.
