My makers lessons in construction have been rather entertaining. He had demonstrated how to create simple things such as circuit boards and ion converters, he called them 'the basics of any creation'. I had constructed the items he labelled as basic with ease, it seemed to impress him with how quickly I built the devices. He then brought out more complicated blueprints to items such as gyro stabilizers and ion disruptors, which I had also constructed with ease. My master was rather impressed with my rapid progress of learning his teachings. Right now, I was headed for his laboratory for his next lesson which he had called 'Chemistry'. I was ecstatic to begin.
Upon walking through the laboratory's doors, I could see my maker holding a datapad and reading the data upon its screen. He had an entire set of items known as beakers, test tubes and viles upon a table, brightly colored liquids filled 4 beakers.
"Master?" I spoke.
Quintus lifted his helm to notice me entering, a smile forming upon his faceplates as he set the datapad down.
"Hello Nexus, are you ready to begin?" He questions.
"Yes Master, but may I ask what you were reading?"
My maker nods and picked up the device, holding it out to me. I took the datapad gently and glanced over the information. There were images of large beasts along with captions and paragraphs beneath them, describing what they were. I scrolled to the very top and a specific word caught my attention.
Predacon.
"What is a Predacon?" I ask.
"They were the mighty beasts of Cybertron until an event known as 'The Great Cataclysm' sent them into extinction." He explains.
"I see," I scroll through the images of the many different types of Predacon, "How unfortunate, these creatures would have been a fascinating study."
"They would have, yes. But unfortunately, it was much before our time. Now, shall we begin?"
"Of course."
He would explain what each substance was called along with what purpose it served. Acidic liquids which is self explanatory, base substances that combat and neutralize the acidic substances, and neutral components that do neither or. Although the neutral components could serve as stabilizers when mixing highly complex concoctions, to which was far out of my element at the moment.
Quintus had given me 2 simpler concoction recipes such as painkiller medicine and a tranquilizer, both of which only containing 3 or 4 substances. I chose the proper components for the painkiller and poured them into a beaker, the substance within the container turned into a bright pink color once mixed together.
"Excellent Nexus, now the tranquilizer is a bit more complex." My master warns.
"How so?"
"This substance here," he gestured to a vile containing a dark blue liquid, "is very finnicky as a base liquid. For this, only add 3 drops. And be very cautious."
I give a nod as I understood. I did not know what would happen otherwise, but I did not particularly want to find out. Ever so carefully, I opened the vile and slowly allowed a small amount of the liquid to touch the brim. I could see my master in my peripheral vision watching from a distance, and not looming over my shoulderplate as he detected earlier that it altered my focus. One drop fell into the beaker filled with a white liquid below, the dark blue droplet that had fallen turning paler in color. Then another, the final drop fell into the concoction flawlessly. I pulled the vile away and closed it.
"Well done, Nexus. You have very steady servos, a large advantage in the field of science."
"Thank you master. Is that all for today?"
"It is. We will move onto more complicated substances tomorrow, for now I must continue to monitor my experiments."
This caught my interest rather quickly.
"Experiments?"
Quintus nods as he gestured to 2 smaller cylinders upon a table, both filled with a yellow glowing liquid. Within the liquid in each were what looked like T-Cogs, but they looked heavily damaged.
"T-Cogs? But didn't you mention that I was your last creation?" I question.
"You are my last living creation, Nexus. I have been working on this experiment for a millennia."
"What are you trying to create, master?"
"A component that can heal any injury no matter how severe, a healing component as it is known. My attempts up to now have been unsuccessful, but I am getting closer to perfecting the recipe. These 2 T-Cogs were the result of a cloning procedure I had done in order to give you one, yours was the only successful functioning replica."
A cloning procedure? If he is capable of replicating a very vital organ, I am rather curious to what else he is capable of doing with this. Along with the previous information about the extinct beasts known as Predacons.
"Master?"
"Yes, my creation?"
"What else of the Predacons do you know?"
"Not very much, truthfully. But if you care to learn more about them, I suggest you visit the Archives. There is more than enough information there that I cannot provide you now."
"I understand, thank you master."
And visit the Archives I did.
Once I had entered the facility, it was nothing but full shelves reaching to the ceiling. So much knowledge in one place, I am certain to find something about the Predacons here. I began searching around for anything involving the extinct creatures. The ignorant stares from other Quintessons did not bother me one bit as I was searching around, my focus being elsewhere. After a some time of scouring the files, I had finally discovered what I was looking for. I removed an average sized folder from its place and read the title.
"Predacons: Biology, Temperament and Extinction"
This is precisely what I was looking for, although I was genuinely hoping to find more. I took the folder with me and looked for a spot to sit down and quietly read the documents, finding a place in front of the tall shelves. After taking my seat, I opened the folders to be greeted with many documents and very detailed sketches of the majestic creatures.
Most of the beasts in the drawings possessed large wings, but some did not. But a very common occurrence was claws and heavily armored body frames. Some large teeth, others large beaks, or appeared rather feline or canine in appearance. I was very fascinated by the creatures appearance and body structure. I had moved past the drawings and onto the actual information regarding the Predacons, reading through the paragraphs rather thoroughly.
"Male Predacons were known for their brute strength and aggressive demeanors, especially towards protecting their mates and younglings. It is theorized that these beasts were capable of transformation, but no evidence has been found to see this is true."
Interesting, I must know more.
